Jerry Sandusky makes his way into the Centre County courthouse for the second day of his trial on child molestation charges. Sandusky has been charged with 52 counts of child sex abuse allegedly involving 10 boys over 15 years. JOE HERMITT, The Patriot-News

There are few serial molesters as evil as Jerry Sandusky, and just how evil this monstrous man really is comes to light daily in a Pennsylvania courtroom as his victims start to tell their stories.  Sandusky, a former assistant Penn State University football coach, had been molesting the boys under his care for perhaps decades and yet no one spoke of it.  The silence surrounding this vile man was in and of itself deafening.

Sandusky faces 52 criminal counts that he sexually abused 10 boys over 15 years, allegations he has denied. His arrest and the fallout led to departures of longtime football coach Joe Paterno and the university president.

Here’s the edited Newser summary of the testimony of the first of Sandusky’s victims:

The alleged victim who launched the case against Jerry Sandusky sobbed as he took the stand today, describing his encounters with the former coach. Sandusky began by taking “Victim 4,” now 18, to activities with other kids, then alone; finally he began having sleepovers at the coach’s house. After regularly kissing the victim and cracking his back, Sandusky eventually began performing oral sex on him, he told the jury, many of whose members covered their faces with their hands.

When he was assaulted, “my mind was telling me to move, but I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t move,” the victim said. He became particularly emotional when describing the moment Sandusky told him, “It’s your turn,” the Patriot-News reports. Victim 1 said the assaults occurred in Sandusky’s basement, where his wife never went. Embarrassed to reveal what was happening, the victim kept returning to the house, where he would try to hide from Sandusky. Eventually, Victim 4 told a school official, but “they didn’t believe me.” Finally, he and his mother told Youth Services, prompting the investigation.

The man, now 28, was the first of eight alleged victims expected to testify during the trial, which began Monday with opening statements.
