National Weather Service Issues Deadly Forecast Ahead of Sandy

Read Time:1 Minute, 0 Second

People can be very stubborn, so the folks from the National Weather Service had to get down and dirty with their warnings to residents to get out of low-lying areas now before Hurricane Sandy hits.

After running down a list of reasons why it makes no sense to stay, and warning that “all areas will have significant impacts,” the Weather Service’s statement adds: “Think about the teams who will rescue you if you are injured, or recover your remains if you do not survive.” That should be an attention getter.

The massive storm is expected to hit the East Coast later today, and hundreds of thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware. Airlines have cancelled close to 5,000 flights all along the East coast and inland. Low-lying airports, including La Guardia and JFK, are expected to be hard hit by flooding, particularly because tides are already high during the full moon, notes the Wall Street Journal.

It’s just the “Dumbing down of America” at work. The media is an eager supporter of that project. That means they can say anything, no matter how absurd, and a great majority of the population will accept it.

They no longer have to bother with such wearisome things as fact-checking, editing for grammar and spelling, or logical inconsistencies. It makes their jobs so much easier.

Ever watch any of those Jay Leno things where he walks about in LA and asks people questions? Fuck. There are people who think China is next to New Jersey and these are the college students. I’m afraid for America. Then there’s the storm and all you see and hear is hype. Yes. Flags do shred in high wind, so no reason to make a big deal and a camera lingering scene out of it. Scare tactics. Just fucking wrong.

@ Rick How can a creationist be a minster of science and technology? That sounds like a complete conflict of interest. Or is it a political position awarded as a political plum like being ambassador to East Hellandgone?

James is right ! It’s all about the position of the big 3. CNN had people going for a loop when they were saying that there is a full moon and it will vastly affect the size of the waves from Sandy. Don’t they have scientific advisers on their staff? I guess not. Sheesh, even here in Canada we have a Minister of Science and Tech who is a creationist. How can we ever get ahead with all the lunacy?

FYI, the “full” moon has nothing to do with the tide height. The moon is always the same size. What makes the tides higher and lower is the relative positions of the earth, moon, and sun.

Other than that, nice article. We can see the weather service is fighting an uphill battle. People usually believe what they want to believe no matter how expert a contrary opinion is or how much evidence there is supporting that contrary pinion.
