Is Ed Schultz On the Way Out at MSNBC?

Read Time:1 Minute, 29 Second
Ed Schultz interviews Ezra Klein in this screenshot from ‘The Ed Show.’ (MSNBC)

I’m no fan of Ed Schultz.  On the contrary I find him to be a less than intellectual blow hard, more reminiscent of the gang at Fox than the left leaning MSNBC.  There was at least one occasion when Schultz was reprimanded and disciplined for over the top reporting, and the time has come for Schultz to go.  I cannot think of a worse lead in to the most excellent Rachel Maddow Show, unless it was Al Sharpton.

Here’s the story summary:

(Newser) – Are Ed Schultz’s days at MSNBC—or at least in its 8pm slot—numbered? Mediaite spotted an intriguing detail in this New York Times profile of the increasingly liberal network: Sources say the network is looking for more political shows, and consider Washington Post columnist Ezra Klein their top prospect to host one. “Klein may start with a weekend time slot, but these people said the 8pm weekday time slot held by Mr. Schultz was also a possibility,” the paper says.

Mediaite points out that Klein might make for a more cohesive lead-in to Rachel Maddow’s more popular show—he is, after all, a frequent fill-in host on Maddow’s show. The rumor comes at the tail end of a longer piece focusing on how MSNBC has become more successful by transforming “from a CNN also-ran to the anti-Fox.” It’s looking for more political shows so it can cement that new brand identity.

I’d be happy to take Ed’s place but truth is he and I are pretty much interchangable. I quit the cerebral approach long ago. Hours of research and fact checking to do a post only to have some deluded right wing fool answer it with an accusation of socialism or wanting to destroy America.

I’m comfortable with Ed and myself. Now let’s get to work.

Maybe they will bring my imaginary boyfriend Chris Hayes to prime time, instead of the weekend spot he is currently occupying. Don’t judge me dammit 😉 Get rid of one of Tweety’s reruns and leave Ed. Lot of people like his fighting, I’m one of them.

I agree that Ed is too much of a “middle class hero” type who puts forth questionable information. But, IMHO, I do think they could well do with a replacement for the Rev. AL equally as well and the replay of the Chris Matthews Show an hour after it first airs. To be truthful, Rachel is about the only one I consistently watch on MSNBC these days. CNN is still my cable news preference.
