Whiners in 20 States Petition for Secession

Read Time:1 Minute, 41 Second

The crazies are out in force subsequent to the re-election of Barack Obama, from yard signs bemoaning the win using biblical verses, to republican flags flying at half staff, to vicious FB and Tweets, to threats (promises) of moving to Canada.

This sort of behavior is to be expected from the Right and from the Obama Haters on the Left, but now they’ve decided that their only course of action is secession.  Yes.  The nutters in about 20 states want to secede from the union because of their disenchantment with the election.

Here’s the story summary:

(Newser) Forget moving to Canada: Some disappointed American voters would like to stay in the USA … so long as their state secedes from the Union. The blog Red Alert Politics takes a look at petitions posted to the White House’s petitions page by residents demanding just that. Newser’s count puts the number of states with such a petition attached to their name at 20. They range from Colorado to Florida to New York, and a few thousand residents in each would, pretty please, like the Obama administration to “Peacefully grant the State of X to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.”

Many of them reference the Declaration of Independence, and the fact that it holds that it is “the Right of the People to … institute new Government … whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends.” While, news flash, these petitions won’t actually result in secession, the “We the People” section of the White House website does promise that staffers will review a petition that gets enough backing (25,000 votes by residents of that state), “ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.” So far, Texas looks to be closest to that threshold.

Rick, I have lived in Quebec and in some American Red states. Trust me, you do not want these people in Canada.

They would complain about your “socialist” health care and everything else while overloading those same services. You’d never see any contributions coming from their offshore bank accounts and they would insist upon imposing their wacky religious beliefs on all of you.

Canada is great. Please keep it that way.

Personally, I have alerted the policia and military here to try to be more selective in granting visas and guarding the borders. 🙂

Please don’t send them north to my beautiful, mostly sane country of Canada. After all they wouldn’t like it since we have universal health care and look after the environment (except lately with our ultra-conservative P.M whom we hope to get rid of next election.) Also, our voting system is so simple it would confuse them and they might start shooting at random with their handguns to protest wanting to make it more difficult to vote for our Natives. Oh hell, let them come. We’ll ignore them and say they can’t emigrate to Canada because of their stupid prejudices and religious garbage. Plus, they’re too white !

Wall off North Dakota, shove ’em all in there, and after a couple generations send a drone flying over and see if there’s anyone left.

Don’t we have some nuclear weapons storage facilities in ND? Not a good idea to have them close to the right-wing nuts.

I have made the offer to pay for the ticket for any Republinut that wants to leave. My only rule is, they cannot come back – ever. So far, it has cost me, ummm, $0.00. Perhaps their promises and as reliable as their thinking?

Alas, where has integrity gone? It seems you can’t depend upon anyone these days.

No they don’t get Texas at all. Remember Molly Ivins, Ann Richards, Jim Hightower and many others have come from Texas. I say let them go to Somalia, I hear it’s a vacation paradise and has none of the stuff they hate here. Regulations, nope, guns, hell all over the place, look down on the womenfolk, ayup and so on, etc, also too.

I’m not so sure about Texas, they’ve got that cool wildlife place we saw on 60 Minutes. But we could definitely spare Indiana.
