Burglar calls 911 as homeowner threatens to shoot him
I believe only cops should carry guns in a domestic environment, at least handguns. It’s my experience that shotguns do a lot more damage than handguns, and it’s hard to miss.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read of people shooting at people point blank with pistols only to miss because they’re afraid, jerk the trigger, or don’t have a clue as to what they’re doing. Police recruits, on the first day of live fire, miss a full target completely at 7 yards. It’s hard to do that with a shotgun.
That being said, here’s one case where the good guys won, and the bad guy gets both scared and arrested:
A suspected burglar called 911 after the owner of the home he broke into caught and held him at gunpoint.
The suspect, Christopher Moore, placed the emergency call in Springtown, Texas, during the botched burglary attempt early Tuesday after James Gerow, the homeowner, and Gerow’s son pointed guns at him as he sat in his pickup truck parked in the driveway.
“I’m out in the country somewhere,” Moore told the 911 operator during the 10-minute call. “Some guy’s got a gun on me.”
Gerow’s wife, Lindy, placed a concurrent call to 911 that confirmed Moore’s account.
“You better come quick,” she said, “or my husband’s going to shoot him.”
“If he gets out of the truck, shoot him in the legs,” James Gerow told his son, according to the Dallas Morning News Crime Blog. “You ain’t gotta kill him—just shoot him in the legs.”
When police arrived, both Moore and Lindy Gerow were still talking to 911 dispatchers.
According to CBS’ Dallas-Fort Worth affiliate, Moore was arrested and charged with burglary. He’s currently being held on a $35,000 bond.

Bill, exactly what do you have against your dogs? Mine are more picky about what they eat.
I have always loved the pump shot gun for sound effect. My brother law had the best set up for my sister though. He sawed off a double barreled 12 gauge and told her to get at the end of a hallway if anyone broke in on her. The let the guy get halfway down the hallway and pull the trigger on each barrel quickly in succession. Reload and do it again. Then feed what was left to the dogs.
James, I have a single shot .410 for just that reason.
I too like the shotgun. My favorite home defense weapon was a .410 pump. The first round was a friendly warning called bird shot. After that, they got much more serious.
A .410 looks much larger when it’s pointed your way. It’s light, easy to handle and won’t penetrate your walls and hit someone in the next room or a neighbor.
I am confident that 99% of the time, the sound of the pump racking a round in the chamber is all it takes. In a dark house, the intruder may not know he isn’t facing a semi-automatic 12 gauge loaded with 00 shot. Personally, in that position, I would not like to take a chance on it.
That “racking” sound is persuasive all by itself, as it leaves the “listener” thinking “oh fuck.”
Or “Damn, these were new pants!”
ROFL!! Very good. I like a 12 gauge BTW, not slugs though. As you said I don’t want anything going through a wall and maybe hurting one of my dogs. Or the neighbors. What the hell. Fuck the neighbors.
