Idiots in Indiana: Teachers must prove evolution science

Read Time:1 Minute, 56 Second
State representative Dennis Kruse, an idiot in office.

The list goes on and on, and yesterday another republican (they’re almost all republicans), Dennis Kruse of Indiana tops the “Idiots in Office” list:

(Think Progress) Though Indiana state senator Dennis Kruse (R) failed to pass his measure requiring schools to teach the theory of creationism alongside evolution, he hasn’t given up. Rather than another attempt at the creationist bill, Kruse, the chairman of Indiana’s Senate Education and Career Development Committee, plans to offer“truth in education” legislation.

The “truth in education” bill won’t mention religion, God, or Adam and Eve. Instead, the bill vaguely suggests that students challenge teachers and make them prove the truth. As Kruse’s colleague, Sen. Tim Skinner (D-IN), pointed out, this bill describes the basic interaction of teacher and student:

“If you’re teaching something, then a student could question that and say, you know, ‘How do you know that’s true?’ And so the teacher would have to come up with different sources, ‘This is why I think this is true,’” Kruse says.

Terre Haute Democratic Senator Tim Skinner says Kruse’s proposal is not something that needs to be mandated.

“If Senator Kruse had education experience he would know that students across the country are already doing that every day in the public school classroom,” Skinner says. “They question everything, and I think a teacher who’s actually doing their job will answer those questions.”

Kruse’s bill is similar to a Tennessee bill that was passed in April, which encourages students to question teachers on science and protects teachers from retribution if they choose to teach creationism. His former legislation was killed in the House, as House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-IN) believed it would result in costly legal battles. The creationist movement suffered a defeat in the courts last week, when a Louisiana judge decreed that Gov. Bobby Jindal’s (R-LA) program to give huge sums of taxpayer dollars to religious private schools that teach anti-evolution theories was unconstitutional.

Fortunately, there are plenty of pieces of evidence for evolution in universities, museums and laboratories all over the earth. Evolution is easy to prove so what this moron is doing is taking careful aim at his foot and hitting it squarely. Any teacher that cannot prove evolution should have their license revoked.

The end result of this idea could be children in Indiana exposed to provable facts. That might cause them to question some of the other nonsense they are taught at home and church. It worked for me. 🙂

The religious fundamentalists who are in bed with the cabals of neo-cons and who call for smaller government invariably mean that smaller thinking is best for their nefarious purposes. Making real education as meaningless as possible suits them right down to the ground. Creationism and intelligent design are johnny-come-lately attempts to undermine the scientific method which to them represents rigorous thought, a dangerous process that is designed to question propositions that are too often contradictory when they are not being deliberately obfuscatory. I guess the ultimate aim for them is to “let us do your thinking for you because we’ve spent so many years making education a painful process”

rather than the joyous activity it ought to be.

So it would be okay as a teacher when asked about cheeses and the invisble sky daddy, to say it’s all bullshit. Surely they have an option for that amirite. Or would I, as a teacher, get my ass fired for saying this in a classroom. Hmmm, I know what answer I’m going with.

I used to think so, but lately I’ve become convinced that it’s all about code to their followers. Nobody can actually be that dumb, and still manage to perform basic functions like feeding and clothing themselves. It must be a ruse.

Nope, they really believe this crap.

This has nothing to do with religion. It’s simple Machiavellian “divide and conquer” strategy. The Right doesn’t really believe all the lunacy they espouse, they just want to have a social group to belong to – that stands in opposition to ours. If a Democrat came out in favor of puppies and hot cocoa, some Republican would denounce them.

“How do you KNOW that’s true?” I guess Kruse never questioned his religion when he was indoctrinated. Young children don’t usually question god/jesus if he threatens to burn you in hell if you don’t follow him and do as he says according to the bible. That’s like telling a child, “The earth is flat, because it looks flat !” “and if you don’t accept without a doubt what I’ve told you then you’ll get strapped, have to sit in a corner for the rest of your life without food and water and worst of all, you’ll have to go to church everyday and pray on your knees to skydaddy who is invisible and doesn’t exist, but he “Loves You.” ( a little George Carlin humor there .)

They’re everywhere these right wing fools, and they keep coming. Did you ever notice how many times religion plays a role in these things?
