Wayne LaPierre: An American in the Mold of Patrick Henry

Read Time:2 Minute, 56 Second

Once in a generation or two a leader comes along who just knows what is good for us. Many times these people are vilified, but fortunately or unfortunately they do garner enough of a following to keep them going.

One of these great men was Ronald Reagan. Reagan brought us tax cuts that benefitted the wealthiest and the promise of less government and freedom and fiscal responsibility. Although his policies have not brought us the less government and fiscal responsibility he foresaw as yet, that only means we need to give the republicans more time to allow them to work. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will tax cuts for the rich lead to less government and fiscal responsibility anytime soon. Today’s incarnation of the great and wise Ronald Reagan is the brutally pilloried and misunderstood NRA president Wayne LaPierre. A finer, more patriotic and pragmatic American has never lived.

Wayne responded to the most recent mass murder by a nut using an assault style weapon, not with fear and some half cocked demand for gun control, but with the wisdom and judgment of Solomon. Wayne simply said we need to arm more people to cancel out the nuts. His call for putting armed guards in our schools struck a blow against the liberals who would take our freedoms. What American mother wouldn’t want her children to know a man with a gun is just outside the classroom door ready to kill any evil doers that come around wanting to do evil?

Those less pragmatic than Wayne would bring up all the shooting cases of innocent bystanders. The recent case in New York City of cops shooting it out with a criminal and 9 people being shot, seven of them by the officers, comes to mind, but Wayne understands that collateral damage is what we pay for freedom. The families of the children and teachers killed at Sandy Hook can take comfort, as does Wayne, knowing that their deaths were not in vain. They died as martyrs and heroes in the war to keep America free for anyone who wants an assault style weapon.

Wayne’s views also reflect one of the greatest things about America. Our good business sense. It’s the American way to do things as efficiently as possible. Just like Henry Ford’s assembly line. Assault weapons and their kin kill with great efficiency and convenience. To buy a truckload of anhydrous ammonia or other bomb making material to kill a large number of people would subject a killer to a bunch of questions and the trouble of learning how to make a bomb that would kill a large number of people. It’s so much easier to go to a gun show and buy an assault weapon, walk into a theater or school, or even downtown on a busy day and start blasting.

Wayne LaPierre is only being a good American businessman by fighting for the rights of people to not be inconvenienced. When the price of inconvenience is the death of innocent bystanders Wayne LaPierre stands tall for the cause of freedom. The message he sends to mass killers is clear: give them any damn weapon they want or give innocent children and bystanders death!

I’m sure Patrick Henry would be proud.

Subtle sarcasm is the best Joe. You and Greg have outdone yourselves while I’ve been gone. I love the analogy between crazy Wayne and Patrick Henry. Fun stuff…

Joe this is one of your best pieces, destined, dare I say, for a Pulitzer 🙂

It’s only a matter of time AnonymousNot. Just as good sense led our country to saying no to McCain and Romney, so the Pulitzer folks will quit messing with intellectual elitists and reward a hard working, simple man of principles, me, soon.

I just found this on http://www.reddit.com/r/politics/. I don’t know why it was down voted because a lot of people left favorable comments. I up voted it because I thought it was subtle sarcasm and worthy.

The boys on the hill are actually living in their bomb shelter. These nuts are my neighbors and the day after the election they actually moved out of their beautiful home and into their underground shelter, originally designed to protect them from bad weather. They claim Obama’s re-election means America is doomed and they want to be ready. They must have at least a hundred different type weapons and they’ve even got hand grenades!! Freakin’ crazy man!

Let’s see how long they hide out until they become tired of waiting for Barry to show up with his storm troopers.

Aren’t hand grenades illegal where you live?

The government is going to come after the people and turn America into a Fascist state? What the fuck? Where does this nonsense come from? The level of paranoia in this country rivals that of some in the Middle East. The difference: in the Middle East it’s justified. The Patriot Act? An important measure that doesn’t invade the privacy of ordinary Americans in extraordinary ways. Most don’t have a clue as to what it says. Good piece here Joe…just responding to a couple of the comments.

Send a message to MadMike that I deserve a more prominent place in the hierarchy here Nothlmenkeni.

Too bad you didn’t see this post before Mike edited all the dirty stuff out.

I admit, albeit reluctantly, that this was a fine job of writing. I am stumped.

Or the people who think they need assault weapons could just join the army and defend our freedoms and sovereignty that way. That would be patriotic, wouldn’t it?

Good seeing you here Les.

Well, yes, of course it would. However, continuing that line of logic, what about if ever OUR own government should decide to suppress out natural rights and liberties? I’m not saying Obama’s administration would do this mind you, but the Patriot Act comes to mind.

Just sayin…

The “Patriot” Act comes to mind? As well it should. Let’s not forget that BHO voted for it originally and it was extended on his watch, too.

In fat, when you think about it, exactly what has he changed? That Patriot Act is still with us, we’re still in two counter-productive wars and may be about to enter a third.

His Health Care plan, despite the GOP objections is really Romneycare, a Republican plan, and the gulag at Guantanamo Bay is still operating.

Considering everything, he might have been the hand-picked successor to Bush.

Still he’s better than anyone the GOP (General Obstructionist Party) has presented.

You are so naive little one. You read too much of the old history books about how the founders wrote the Second Amendment just in case they thought the big bad government was not doing right. 🙂 I feel for your ignorance. That work real well for the South in the mid 1800’s did it not. Oh, yeah. we rebels showed them. And don’t forget about Ruby Ridge and Waco. Weren’t those great times. Man, that David Koresh showed them feds a thing or two. Son, the next time you think about about Charleton Heston’s line, “…out of my cold dead hands.”, just remember, they can do it if they want to, just because they can. They’ve done it. I’ve seen them do it. 🙂 You people are silly.

Well-put, Bill. Just last week I was talking via Skype to a guy in Texas who thought that yes, ordinary citizens could defeat the military. Many of them are ex-military and are skilled, so no problem. Semi-auto AR-15s with 30-round mags are a match for chain guns and missile-equipped drones, he believes.

He also said that “Obama is coming to take our guns away.” when asked, he confirmed he meant that Barry will personally show up at your door to confiscate your guns. He also thought Obama could personally pass a law to do this. I reminded him that the President does not pass laws, congress does. That’s when he hung up.

Ha ha James. Exactly. I have a neighbor who is a Right Winger who thinks the same. When confronted with the facts he shuts down and starts talking about his tulips. I prefer that he talk exclusively about his tulips. I like the guy but his ignorance of government startles me.

You know James, I am also ex military but that doesn’t mean that I would want to go toe to toe with our current military. The Marines of today are better trained and better equipped than we were, and even more so than even those of Desert Storm. Typically, two or three years out of the military regime and you have totally lost your edge.

Bill, I totally agree. Like you, I am ex-military and I have no illusions about going up against a modern military.

I also doubt that most ex-military, especially those who were career military, would even consider it. But then, most of them are not nut cases, either.

One of my long-time friends is an ex-navy pilot and currently a CCW instructor. When I asked him about that, he snorted in derision and estimated that these arm chair commandos would last about one minute before surrendering or running like rabbits.

He is not an Obama fan by any means but even he said the idea of the president “making a law” was absurd and ignorant. The impossibility of any government “confiscating all the guns” was also ludicrous. He pointed out that the Nazis couldn’t do it, nor could the Soviets in countries where there were far fewer to confiscate.

Conversely, he is a supported of the concept of licensing people to own firearms. That really isn’t surprising to me as that’s basically his business now. As such, he sees a lot of people that are not temperamentally suited own any weapon, even a large rock. He never passes them in his course, either. Not all Republicans are complete morons.

Ah yes, Wayne Lapierre fighting to protect the right of ALL Americans right to bear arms. A noble and worthy cause. I’m scratching my head trying to figure out exactly why we need assault weapons. I’m thinking it might be just in case we need to defend the homeland against some sort of attack against our sovereignty and freedoms. Why yes, that must be it. Don’tcha think?

Well Les, you might be right. After the greatest military fighting force in the world didn’t stop them from invading the country I am quite sure your pop guns would undoubtedly make them, whoever them might be, quiver and shake in their boots. 🙂 Just kidding Les. Everyone needs a dream to live on don’t they.

This is one case where a sarcasm icon or font is not needed. Well done!
