Assault rifle killer wastes family, children in New Mexico

Read Time:1 Minute, 11 Second

Yet another shooting with an assault rifle.  No doubt Wayne LaPierre will recommend placing armed NRA members in every home to prevent such horrors before he would advocate banning such weapons.

An AR15.

The bullet-ridden bodies of three adults and two children were found inside an Albuquerque, N.M., home late Saturday, authorities confirmed today.

A teenage boy was arrested and is being charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death, according to Deputy Aaron Williamson of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department.

The name of the boy has not been released, and his motive and connection to the victims was not immediately known, Williamson said.

“We’re still in the early stages of the investigation, trying to determine, their identity and once we have everybody identified, then we’ll be able to determine whether or not there was any relationship among the deceased or the offender,” Williamson said.

Authorities responded to the family home Saturday around 9:15 p.m., and found multiple casualties. An assault-type rifle, along with several other weapons, were recovered at the scene.

The victims, including an adult male and female, two girls, and one boy, appeared to have suffered “multiple gunshot wounds,” Williamson said.

Final identifications of the victims are currently under way, he said.

We need to know more definite details.

For the record, I personally have no issue with banning semi auto assault weapons or high cap (extended) magazines. However, keep in mind that a lever action rifle fully loaded can result in 5 people losing their lives at the hand(s) of a deranged or mentally unbalanced individual who has no respect for human life.

The carnage will continue until such time as the root cause is identified and significantly reduced. Firearms, because they are inanimate objects requiring action provided by animate beings to discharge ate in and of themselves not responsible for the death they cause.

Many of the concerns being expressed today, while valid, do little to address the underlying social issues most responsible for the tragedies we are seeing.

A good response, Les. I agree that a lever action weapon, revolver or even a baseball bat would have accomplished similar results.

I don’t understand the reasoning that a lower-capacity weapon could not kill as many people as quickly. Do they mean if only five people are killed instead of 20, that it’s OK?

I also agree that the root causes of people going berserk and engaging in mass murder must be better understood and treated.

Your last paragraph is also very important. Until this is changed, we will continue to see these things happening.
