Why Will.I.Am is Now An Englishman

Will.I.Am is part of the wildly popular Black Eyed Peas. They are an American band and, as such, are probably more appreciated in America than in England / Britain. Well, they are by ‘old farts’ like me anyway.
Personally I’m too into Bowie and Elvis Costello and The Clash and The Sex Pistols and, to bring me slightly up to date, Green Day and Bombskare and Paul Weller who crosses timelines without a shrug of his shoulders. The Smiths were superb and Morrisey continues to be superb and, well, that’s about it really. (The wifey adores Meatloaf so I’d better mention him or I’ll be in the doghouse)
Will.I.Am – what a bloody silly name eh? He’s American, which is forgivable really if only because he’s American and, well, he’s here.
The Voice is an X-Factor like show. Its first series got slammed by the critics and I have no idea why. The judges – Will.I.Am, Tom Jones, some Irish bloke from a band called ‘The Script’ called Danny and Jessie J, whoever she is, (I am 55 after all) can’t see the acts performing. They like them and hit the ‘button’ and their chair turns around. They don’t like it and they don’t hit the button and the ‘act’ goes home. Seems fair enough to me.
Tom Jones is, well, Tom Jones. Jessie J is currently ‘hip’ as far as I can tell and Danny from ‘The Script’ is cool too according to my daughter so I’ll leave it there.
Will.I.Am however is American.
After the first series of ‘The Voice‘ I thought “What a dick”. I enjoyed his presence but he was so American it almost grated in a way. Who was HE to claim a ‘British’ voice or relegate them to the ‘unwanted’?
As Series Two started, I started to think again.
Quite why Will.I.Am could have been involved in carrying the Olympic Torch in Britain last year was a mystery to me but, after watching the last two episodes of this seasons ‘The Voice’ I am coming to terms with his carrying of the Olympic Torch in Britain.
He has moved here, to Blighty, and, whilst being clearly an American, he is slowly but surely finding a place in our hearts.
Will.I.Am is genuinely funny and loveable, self deprecating, slightly odd and, increasingly, a much loved ‘celebrity’ in Britain. The very fact that my mother hates him is a reasonable guide to the fact that Will.I.Am is heading for ‘celebrity greatness’ in the UK.
He is clearly as mad as a hatter – which is a good thing in Britain if you want to be accepted – and he is equally clearly a very caring man. He is also a proven genius when it comes to ‘producing’ singers and bands and groups – Black Eyed Peas eh peeps?
Will.I.Am is now ours.
That wasn’t our choice America, it was his.
He chose Britain and we accept him so bugger off and get someone else. Will.I.Am is henceforth an honorary Englishman.
So there!
God Save The Queen and any deity of your choice save Will.I.Am because we bloody well love the mad bastard!!! HE IS A STAR!!!!

Well, rumor is he Wil.I.am grew up in the Pacific Palisades, a posh suburb north of Santa Monica. He most certainly knew a lot of English ex-patriots and how ironic that he has become an ex-pat in honor of England!! I do find him a very appealing person who is willing to experiment with art. Cheerio!
I can’t abide the “Peas” but have read Will is a really nice guy.
