Missouri Lawmakers to Throw Out All Federal Gun Laws

I lived in Missouri for many years, and love the place, but their politics not so much.  Missouri has always had a hard time making up their minds about whether or not they’re part of the Confederate states or the Union, having sent men, money and material to both sides during the Civil War.  As a result their independence is well known and Missouri is not called the “Show Me State” for nothing.  Now however, it appears their silly meter is spiking, as, if the legislature has its way, the federal government might just “Show Them” who’s boss.

(Newser) It looks like Missouri is about to order the federal government to butt out in terms of gun laws. The state legislature appears to have the votes to override the governor’s veto of a bill that nullifies all federal gun legislation, reports the New York Times. (The AP talks to several Democrats who confirm they will bow to their constituents’ wishes on the matter and vote against their party’s own governor next month.) Even if the legislation becomes law, however, critics don’t think it stands a chance in the courts. Backers say an important principle is at stake: “It’s probably one of the best states’ rights issues that the country’s got going right now,” says a state GOP party official.

The legislation not only declares federal gun laws to be null and void within the state’s borders, it actually makes it illegal for federal agents to try to enforce them. In fact, state residents would be able to sue the arresting officer. The measure also makes it illegal for journalists to print the names of gun owners, calling to mind controversies like this one. A quote from a Democratic lawmaker pretty much sums things up: “We love our guns and we love hunting. It’s not worth the fight for me to vote against it.” But, he adds, “the bill is completely unconstitutional, so the courts are going to have to throw it out.”

The Federal Government is the Child of the States.

https://politicalpistachio.blogspot.com/2011/04/myth-2-federal-law-supersedes-state-law.html

This can and should happen.
The only thing the States can’t do is infringe the Constitution. Which is what the Federal Government is doing now.

Mike we might know each other. I remember Larry Davis, he and his asshole buddy Don Fowler, would run the circuit trying to convince cops they should become members of the Church of The Living Bread or some such shit. I’m going to contact you through your site Mike.

Missouri is a bible banging state. Where you have god, you have guns, and that what makes for a self-deluding concoction of toil and trouble.

Missouri and Texas need to both secede and form their own nation of nuts. Throw in the Carolina’s and the Deep South for good measure.

I’m from Mo. and I can tell you there’s a lot of ignorant folk in the rural counties. Not so bad in the metropolitan areas, but I can guarantee that’s not where this crap is coming from.

Now if I can get Florida to throw out all speed limits we can have fun, fun, fun.

We’ve already thrown out all county and municipal gun laws and made it a felony to try to enforce them. Why stop there?

Obviously, there is no intelligence test for holding public office. suspect there might be a stupidity requirement, though. Not only in Missouri, either.

This is just stupid. Legislators terrified of a few fanatics wasting tax-payer money passing anti-government laws which will just be turned over by federal courts. Idiots.
