Iran Prepares to Exact Revenge if US Attacks Syria
Read Time:2 Minute, 9 Second
The president’s decision to wait for congressional approval before attacking Syria has given the regime and its allies have been given plenty of time to prepare strikes of their own, American officials warn.
The US has intercepted an order from Iran to Iran-supported Shiite militias in Iraq to launch attacks on the US Embassy and other American targets in the event of a Syria strike, the Wall Street Journal reports. American officials also fear a strike could lead to attacks on targets inside Turkey and Jordan, as well as “a vicious offensive” against the opposition inside Syria. The State Department has warned American citizens to avoid nonessential travel to Iraq, reports Reuters.
In related developments:
- Intelligence has also revealed that the Syrian regime is moving troops and military equipment—including that used to deploy chemical weapons—to civilian neighborhoods, reports the New York Times. In response, President Obama has ordered to Pentagon to expand its list of about 50 targets inside Syria; plans are being drawn up to involve American and French aircraft as well as cruise missiles in the potential strike.
- Syrian rebels can be added to the list of those preparing lists of targets, the Los Angeles Times finds. Opposition leaders say they are preparing for a nationwide offensive to coincide with the expected launch of American strikes. A spokesman says the Free Syrian Army has been told it will receive advance warning of a US attack but it is not coordinating targets with the Americans—though another commander says coordination is under way with “supporting countries” including the US. It’s not clear whether the US will share information ahead of a strike with other rebel groups—and some groups fear the US will attack al-Qaeda-linked insurgents at the same time it hits the regime.
- Meanwhile, in Congress: Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and Heidi Heitkamp are developing an alternative resolution that could delay any US military action, Politico reports. The resolution would give Syria 45 days to sign an international ban on chemical weapons. If Bashar al-Assad refuses to sign, then “all elements of national power will be considered by the United States government,” the draft reads. In that same 45 days, the president would be required to submit a strategy to Congress on how to deal with Syria.

Maybe this is just a prelude to Orwell’s plan in the novel 1984. It is time that the world be divided into two or three large sections instead of all these little countries. Russia, the U.S. and China can each take a third of the world and be done with these petty little trouble making countries. If they persist in acting out put their people into slavery for a while. That calm them down.
oh dear….
On the other hand, if this gives us a good excuse to bomb Iran back to the stone age then maybe a strike on Syria isn’t such a bad thing.
Hope you’re wrong Joe, but it has been a few years since we tried to wipe an ancient civilization off the face of the earth.
When Iran (Persia) was a great regional power, most of our forefathers were in the Stone Age.
They gave us Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Alhazen was a great engineer who had to pretend to be insane so he wouldn’t be executed for displeasing the king when he figured out he couldn’t build a dam where what is now the Aswan dam. The Presian believed the insane were touched by “God.” Perhaps that explains how so many nuts became kings and emirs and ayatollahs.
Sherazada who gave us the 1001 Tales of The Arabian Nights only did so to save herself from being executed by a jealous king who was afraid she would be unfaithful so he had all his wives executed the morning after he wed them.
Keep telling yourself how wonderful these people are
Joe there many other things of a positive nature we derived from the Persians. Nice rugs, for example.
Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves, you talking about the republicans again?
Persia was a military juggernaut. They were fierce and they were conquerors, pretty much like the current juggernaut.
300 Spartans wore their sorry Persian asses out. Guess their magic carpets ran out of gas.
These are the people that glorify 40 thieves in fairy tales while in reality cut off the hands of starving people for swiping a couple of dates or loaf of bread.
Hollywood movies and fairy tales do not constitute knowledge about Iran.
All great powers have a sordid past, some even have a sordid present.
Well said Ms Hartman and so very true.
Here here (I can say that as I’m a Brit)
The State Department has warned American citizens to avoid nonessential travel to Iraq.
In 2003, 10s of thousands of Americans (mostly men) all in nice uniforms went on a Pentagon sponsored vacation to Iraq. The most nonessential travel of all time.
A vacation? You’re kidding right lady? Over 4,000 men and women died in that shithole and thousands more were injured. It was hardly a vacation, so show a little respect for the men and women of our armed forces.
No it wasn’t a vacation and you’re taking offense just for the hell of it. I have a lot more respect for our armed forces than the Pentagon does.
“thousands of Americans (mostly men) all in nice uniforms went on a Pentagon sponsored vacation to Iraq..”
Wat? Did you forget the Brits ya twat? Lots of us went on that “vacation” and lots of us died as well and nobody on this side of the bloody pond takes offence you slag. Course not.
The US government didn’t send any Brits to Iraq, your own corrupt government did that. Get mad at them not me.
Nice one JH!!! – I’m not actually a Brit, I’m a Lancastrian but there yer go eh? 😉
It’s an ‘American’ web magazine Shalimar – mainly focusing on ‘America’ mate as you would expect. Chill a bit mate – they aren’t dissing us Brits they’re focusing on their own place – Mad Mikes AMERICA?
apart from Libya and Afghanistan eh? The Pentagon really need to stop sponsoring all these bloody vacations!!!
More and more this sounds like Bush II and Iraq. Give your intended victim plenty of warning so they will have time to prepare to raise the cost to unacceptable levels. Except there doesn’t seem to be any unacceptable levels when you don’t have your own skin in the game, does there.
Never mind the false premises for your attack and certainly ignore the costs in human and economic terms. As far as world opinion, who gives a shit? The reputation of the country doesn’t matter ether as long as your finance fellows are showing nice profits, right Haliburton?
