Renisha McBride didn’t have to die, and if the man who killed her didn’t have a gun she would be alive today. Yet another argument for gun control. In a country where virtually anyone who can walk can carry a gun, any kind of gun, accidents are bound to happen, as are crimes born of fear or passion. Guns make killing easy and impersonal, and little time is given to thought before pulling the trigger.

(Newser) The homeowner who allegedly shot and killed a Detroit teen after her car crashed and she sought help at his house told police it was an accident, the Detroit Free Press reports. Renisha McBride’s family has said the 19-year-old was shot in the back of the head as she turned to leave, but police say that’s not true. “She was shot in the front of the face,” says one detective. The homeowner says he initially believed McBride was breaking into his house. The .12-gauge shotgun has been seized by police for analysis; the homeowner remains free.

McBride’s family also disputes reports claiming the homeowner called police; family members say neighbors reported the shooting. Another mystery: McBride’s accident occurred around 1:30am and she showed up on the porch around 3:40am; it’s not clear what she was doing during the time in between. The NAACP wants the incident “investigated at every level.” The county prosecutor’s office and police are investigating as they decide whether to file charges. Last night, supporters rallied for McBride outside the Dearborn Heights police station, Reuters reports.

This is not only gunning, it’s America’s ridiculous laws that permit people to kill at will if they in any way feel threatened. It’s also about racial stereotypes. If it’s black it’s got to be bad. This poor girl and her parents, just because some asshole wanted to exercise his right to own a gun.

This guy should be arrested for, at the least, some sort of reckless endangerment or manslaughter or something. He shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this. Fucking gun heads.

But we all know that “guns don’t kill people, PEOPLE kill people!” Never mind that had he not owned a gun at hand, then this “accident” would not have occurred. No, “guns don’t kill people”, but people WITH guns do!

You Yanks and your love affair with guns. No one else understands it, and I think it costs you lots of respect in the world, not to mention tourism dollars. I know I won’t visit a country with so much violence and so many, many guns, which is the cause of the violence. What’s wrong with you America?
