Driven from their natural habitat by deforestation and encroaching humanity, India’s tigers, like so many other wild creatures, find themselves without sufficient hunting range, depriving them of food.  As a result, they are forced to eat wherever the table is laid, in this case a village in northern India.

Yet another villager died by tiger-attack in northern India yesterday, and officials are trying to figure out just how many tigers are out there eating people, Fox News reports. The new victim—the 10th in 6 weeks—was a 50-year-old man collecting firewood when the tiger ate parts of his leg and abdomen.

Villagers scared it off with metal rods and shovels, but it was too late. “People rushed to his rescue on hearing his screams,” park official Samir Sinha told the Times of India. “But he was dead by the time they got there.”

More than one killer tiger may be emerging from Jim Corbett National Park, which was set up in 1936 to give endangered Bengal tigers a safe place to live. “We are not rushing to any conclusion,” said Sinha. “Our priority would be to establish the identity of the tiger.” Reports of a killer tiger have been circulating since a 65-year-old man was killed in December, and villagers are so fed up that they seized a forestry office yesterday—but nothing has changed as yet. Hunters nearly captured a tiger Saturday night with a live calf as bait, but the animal got away.

I used to love to read the books about Lord Jim Corbet back in the days when he would track down the man eaters. No one was more understanding than he was that it was the people that was leading the tigers to have to feed on people and this was more than a half century ago.

I’m with both of you on this. The only reason that there isn’t enough room on this world for all of us, is that people seem to think that we can make all of the rules without paying attention to anything else’s needs.

Tigers, 10 – Humans, 10 million. We sell their teeth, lie around and have sex on their skins, traffic in their babies – and destroy their habitats on a grand and industrial scale. We hold nothing but contempt and disrespect for every other species on this planet. It only makes sense that since we’re the cancer wracking Earth’s body, that her immune system would kick in.

Me? I’m with the tigers on this one, so sue me.

I’m sure this only happens in “Tiger-infested areas”.
