US: No Direct Proof Russkies Shot Down Malaysia Plane
Are you ever confused by government? Of course you are. We all are, but the back and forth over who is responsible for the murder of 298 innocent people aboard Malaysia flight MH17 is a real mind-boggler. The Russians are blaming the Ukrainians while the Ukrainians claim they have a recording of the Russian separatists immediately after they shot down the plane. Secretary of State John Kerry, and the president himself have minced no words when it comes to laying responsibility at the feet of the Big Bear. Now, however, it seems that the US is backing off it’s original accusations.
From Newser:
Senior US intelligence officials said today that Russia was responsible for “creating the conditions” that led to the shooting down of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, but they offered no evidence of direct Russian government involvement. The intelligence officials were cautious in their assessment, noting that while the Russians have been arming separatists in eastern Ukraine, the US had no direct evidence that the missile used to shoot down the passenger jet came from Russia.
The officials briefed reporters today under ground rules that their names not be used in discussing intelligence related to last week’s air disaster, which killed 298 people. The plane was likely shot down by an SA-11 surface-to-air missile fired by Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine, the intelligence officials said, citing intercepts, satellite photos, and social media postings by separatists, some of which have been authenticated by US experts. But the officials said they did not know who fired the missile or whether any Russian operatives were present at the missile launch. (See who Russia blames for the horrific crash.)

They just supplied the missiles and launchers. That’s all they did.
Yep. That’s all they did 🙁
I would seriously doubt that Russians were personally involved. Russia has a record of getting others to do things for them stretching back to the days of the USSR. That way, they have “plausible deniability”. I think they learned how to do that from the USA.
I agree James. I don’t think anyone in the Russian government knew those idiot separatists were so stupid as to shoot down a passenger plane. Too much bad press as a result.
