Children Of The Damned

Read Time:3 Minute, 30 Second

Australian PM Tony Abbott has voiced strong condemnation after an image emerged showing a boy, reportedly the son of an Australian ex-terror convict, holding a Syrian’s severed head.

The image was posted on the Twitter account of Khaled Sharrouf, The Australian newspaper reported.

Sharrouf, who served time for planning attacks in Australia, has now joined Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria.

Mr Abbott said the image showed “just how barbaric” ISIS militants were.

The image shows a young boy – who looks to be of early primary school age – wearing a baseball cap and a blue shirt, using both hands to hold aloft the severed head.

A caption was included that read “That’s my boy”, The Australian said. It said the image was taken in the northern Syrian city of Raqa.”

The above has been taken from the BBC website.

Well? What can you say? To be honest I’m going to stop writing about Islam. What’s the point? There are millions of good, if worryingly silent, Muslims and then there are this lot.

It’s all going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better – and that’s always assuming it is ever going to get better of course.

How can a father take his young sons into a war zone? How can a father let his young sons witness barbarism on any scale let alone this scale? How can a father let his young son hold a severed head for a photograph to be posted on his Twitter account?

How? How? How?

Certain relatives questioned my parental judgement when I took my daughter to see The Sex Pistols on their glorious ‘Filthy Lucre Tour’ in Hammersmith. She was about 16 or 17 I think. She was exposed to drunken punks around her including yours truly, Johnny Rotton ‘f’ ing his way through the songs and the entire audience singing ‘You fat bastard’ in an adoring way to Steve Jones whose birthday it was. Plastic pint pots were flung into the air at regular intervals drenching us all with the contents. I refrained from advising my daughter that it may not always have been beer – well, who goes to the toilet in the middle of a Pistols gig then?

I somehow don’t think my parental judgement is quite up the scale with Khaled Sharrouf.

The children of Iraq and Syria are witnessing things that no human being should ever witness. The children of the damned are children damned to a life of horrific memories – assuming they live long enough to formulate the horrific memories into the nightmares they assuredly have for the rest of their lives.

We of the west quite rightly cry in horror when an innocent is killed by a criminal in our little part of the world and it is indeed horrific, particularly for those who have lost a son / daughter / husband / wife in such circumstances but aren’t we the lucky ones eh? We were born in America or Britain or France or Spain or Canada.

When will it all end? When the world ends I suspect.

Right. Now I’ve adequately depressed you all and myself let’s look on the bright side of life shall we?

It is 2538 miles from Britain to Iraq and 6214.8 miles ( .8? Don’t ask me, I got it off the internet) from America to Iraq. Not far enough I grant you but at least the mad bastards aren’t in Germany or Mexico eh?

I sometimes forget, as I moan and whinge on about immigrants and stuff, that my little bit of the world isn’t actually such a bad place to be really is it? It’s sunny and warm today. I’m taking a couple of days off and drinking Bud in my nice garden. My daughter is safe and well and my family and friends are safe and well. My cats are sunning themselves and I’ve taken next doors dog, Lacey, for her walk. All is well in my little bit of the world.

It can be such a wonderful world can’t it? I so wish humanity would stop fucking it up, don’t you?

Maybe we should play ‘Sachmo’ on really loud speakers to everyone? I wonder whether Khalid would ever listen…….

John Lennon’s “Imagine” comes to mind… man has created evil with man made religions and false beliefs. I think Louie’s song should be changed to What a Troubled World…..there is good bad and unfortunately violence that seems to persist since the beginning of time…but now with the social media we see it right away when it happens….and it does make one sick to the stomach to see the pictures presented in this email.. but thanks for the reminder…or as Bob Dylan said, “The answer my friend is blowing in the wind.”
