3 Hobbies You Didn’t Know You Loved
Everyone has a handful of hobbies they enjoy. For some, it may be a mellow, relaxing hobby such as painting or gardening. Others enjoy jumping out of planes, scaling giant rock faces, and diving to the bottom of the ocean. If you’re like one of the first group mentioned, but are looking to add a bit of spice to your hobby list, check out these three awesome hobbies that you’re sure to love.
Geocaching
Now that we’re in the smartphone era, just about anybody has the tools to be a modern day Indiana Jones. There certainly isn’t stolen Nazi art and treasures at the end of these treasure maps, but people worldwide are drawn to Geocaching. The practice is quite simple: input GPS coordinates into your phone, follow the directions till you reach the destination, and try to spot the hidden container that a Geocacher before you has left.
Usually there is a logbook and some small trinkets in the container, and of course all good Geocachers leave something behind for the next adventurer to stumble across. These Geocache locations aren’t all easily accessible though. Locations vary from tops of mountains, sides of cliffs, the bottom of the ocean, and even the frozen regions of our planet: the North Pole and Antarctica.
Shooting
There’s no other feeling in the world compared to firing off a few rounds at a target and nailing one right in the bullseye. Millions of Americans, and even more worldwide, partake in the sport of shooting. Most of us will remain “range warriors,” while those who are advanced can enter in regional and national shooting competitions.
There are quite a few types of recreational shooting, none of which involve killing animals. Skeet shooting is one of the more popular of the group. In skeet, a clay disc is flung into the air by a mechanical contraption, with the goal being for the shooter to break the disc while it is flying through the air. The release of the disc is signaled by the yelling of “Pull!” which many people may already be familiar with. Usually shotguns or rifles are used for this activity, so if you are looking to add this hobby to your list, you may want to consider checking out an auction firearm before running out to the store to make a purchase. Nobody said hobbies have to be expensive!
Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP)
This new hobby has taken the world by storm over the last few years. A hybrid of surfing and canoeing, SUP’ers stand up on an oversized surfboard and move through the water by using a long-handled paddle. The sport originated in Hawaii, where locals would paddle out into the water to take photographs of vacationers on the beach.
The sport is very easy to learn, and most people who attempt it are up and moving within thirty minutes of learning. A great workout, and a great way to be active on the water, Stand Up Paddle Boards can be found at most sporting stores, and are available for rental in just about every coastal area.
