You think Alabama and LSU is a rivalry? Indiana University (IU is my alma mater) and Purdue make it look like a grade school tiff.

Tune “Home on the Range”

Oh give me a school where the students play pool,
And the cows roam the campus all day.
Where seldom is heard, an intelligent word,
And the athletes all get high pay.

Moo, moo, Purdue. IU says the hell with you
Where chimpanzees, get bachelor’s degrees,
And even a Phi Beta Key.

For those who do not understand the nuances of the importance of what has become one of the most heated rivalries in college football in the last decade Mike is referring to the University of Alabama versus Louisiana State University football game. While I realize that a few people do not follow this sport or are not part of this Southern religion, let me explain. Alabama’s current coach, Nick Saban, currently the highest paid college coach in America, left Michigan to become the coach at LSU. He built a great program there winning a national championship in his 4 year tenure before leaving to coach the Miami Dolphin professional team. After one years in the pro’s he was lured back to the college ranks by Alabama which is in the same Division in the Southeastern Conference of college football. Meanwhile, Les Miles, from Oklahoma State, had taken the helm of LSU and had continue to build that program. Saban began building a powerhouse team at Alabama having won 3 national championships in the last five years. Every year, until this year, LSU and Alabama have been ranked nationally in the top five and the winner of this game has gone a long way toward determining the National Champions. Two years ago it was so intense that while LSU won the regular season game the two teams were matched up in the BCS championship game. Both schools have developed tremendous football programs and each year when they meet it is always a knock down, drag out, game of smash mouth football.
For a bit of correction of the headlines, Alabama did not roll over LSU. Both teams had trouble on offense doing a lot on offense. The score was actually tied with 1 minute and thirty seconds left on the game clock and Alabama with the ball on their own 20 yard line. T. J. Yeldon fumbled the ball for Alabama and LSU recovered it. Three plays later LSU kicked a field goal to take the lead 13 -10. Alabama got the ball back with 50 seconds on the game clock and manage to move it down the field in range to kick a field goal of their own sensing the game into overtime.
In their first OT possession Alabama scored a touchdown. LSU tried four passed plays in their possession all of which failed to connect. Alabama wins the game 20 – 13. Tremendous game and effort by both teams.

I could do an article on Oldham Athletic Football Club in England’s 1st Division? That’s the third tier down from our Premier League.

No? Oh well…probably for the best 😉
