Donald The Elephant Packed His Trump And Said Hello To The Circus

Donald Trump as Republican elephant illo by Ellie Foreman-Peck

I have remained silent for several days. This is often something of a worry for some reason. I have been told that, generally speaking, my silence often forebodes offending someone in some way as the silent retention of my thoughts, such as they are, often results in a sudden explosion of opinion that can often be concluded by the instigation of a fatwa or the tears of a gentle soul or the wrath of a liberal or being banned eternally from places frequented by those who claim to care about something or everything.

Anyway. Silence may well be golden in my case but, genetically, remaining silent when there is so much fun to be had – at the expense of America at the moment – I can no longer control my desire to upset, offend and generally ridicule.

So, let’s crack on shall we?

I, like so many many Brits, failed abysmally to stay up into the wee hours to watch the results of the American election results. There was absolutely no point what so ever. Besides, they aren’t even ‘elections’ as we know them. They’re called caucuses and/or primaries or something and the result was so blatantly obvious to Brits it begets the question whether even the Americans bothered to watch.

Clinton won her bits. Trump won his bits. Really? What a surprise. Old Colonel Saunders or whoever he is managed not to actually die on camera – although, looking at him, he can’t be that far off popping his clogs if you ask me. Someone called Rubik or Rubber or something didn’t win and someone else who isn’t related to Tom as his ‘Cruz’ is spelt differently also didn’t win.

Various American journalists and such like have been popping up on British TV insisting that the Rubik chap has a matrix by which he can challenge Trump – and no, nobody of a sane disposition has the foggiest what they are on about. Matrix? Wasn’t that a movie with that chap who can’t act very well? How is Rubber going to challenge Trump with a matrix? Hit him on the head with it possibly?

Anyway. As Americans carry on thinking that Rubi Cruz (now that’s a good name for an actor) can stop the Trump bandwagon the Brits look on in quiet alarm when realising that, after all, America has far more in common with us than even we realised.

We elected a woman leader first and America may well follow. Alternatively, an increasing number of Brits are absolutely pissed off to the back teeth with politicians and the European Union and, frankly, may well vote to leave. After all we’ve enough of our own bloody politicians without having to put up with European one’s as well.

Trump isn’t a politician. Well, not exactly anyway. He’s a self-made billionaire with a stupid haircut who is using the anger of many Americans to move from his sumptuous pad into another sumptuous pad otherwise known as The White House.

Whether he ever gets there is, of course, another matter but, ultimately, the blame for Trump even being where he is in election terms is purely the fault of America’s political elite. America’s political elite are, like Britain’s political elite, extremely liberal.

Obviously the Republicans aren’t openly liberal as that would be just silly but, in reality, they are far more liberal than they should be – which certainly explains their terror that Trump may be their candidate for President.

You disagree? Feel free. Britain’s Conservatives are actually liberal in their own way too just like your Republicans.

How so you may ask? Well, you may not but when did that ever stop me eh?

Now look. Just for one example. Uncontrolled immigration keeps wages down – fact. If wages are kept low then corporations or conglomerates or what ever you want to call them keep more of the profits for shareholders as their wage bill is lower.

As a result, capitalists (or Republicans / Conservatives) allow immigration at a far higher rate than you would expect – a rate you might expect from the more liberal minded caring people – purely to ensure capitalism pays the highest return to the wealthy capitalists.

Bloody hell! I’m starting to sound like a flaming Marxist!

Therefore, they are behaving like liberals if not from a liberal perspective.

As a result, those of us who are fed up with liberals telling us that allowing thousands of poor migrants and refugees into our countries thereby changing the fabric of our society also become fed up with the apparently ‘right wing’ politicians agreeing with us then allowing them in anyway to keep wages down.

That is just a brief synopsis of only one minute reason why Trump is currently doing so well.

Trump is not a politician and he is saying ‘out loud’ what many Americans have been thinking and feeling for a very long time. The fact that they may hate some of what he says is neither here nor there. He is saying ‘it’ and they agree with at least some of it and, as nobody else is even remotely saying it he will have to do.

I know that’s why Trump is doing well and I find it hard to understand why anyone with more brain cells than a plant can’t see it.

Whilst there is much to be said for liberal politics there is also a problem with it.

No. Britain is not obliged to take in any refugees on the Macedonian border nor any from ‘The Jungle’ in Calais. Yes, life is bloody awful for them but no, they aren’t coming here. Charity begins at home.

Yes, we are the 5th largest economy on the planet and yes, relatively speaking we have a great life but no, we don’t want our living standards to fall just so some migrants can leave Syria and come here.

Yes, we are selfish. So what? We’re human and we want our children to have a great life and, if accepting refugees or migrants would reduce the quality of life in anyway for our children or ourselves we don’t want them and many of us believe accepting them would reduce the quality of life as our infrastructure buckled under the strain.

Do I feel bad or guilty thinking like that? Yes. Does that make me pause for thought and re-evaluate my opinion? No. I’ll live with my guilt if it ensures my children’s country is a great place for them – and sod anyone else.

That, I suspect, is not dissimilar to the thoughts of many Americans. That, or a variation of it anyway.

You think I’m wrong? Fine by me. So how do you think Trump is riding high then? Fairy dust?

Mind you, it might be a President Clinton again. Oh dear America. You are in a mess aren’t you? Good luck. You ain’t half gonna need it methinks.

Donald the elephant packed his trunk and said hello to the circus – reminds me of something does that –

How did America come to this? Because of the GOP, that’s how.

More than just failed business, there were some that were designed to fail and to take large sums of money to people who had put deposits on condominiums only to lose it when the projects went belly up. He’s hardly a self-made businessman, he’s the scion of a self made millionaire and he started the game with more money than most people will make in a lifetime. He’s far more like P.T. Barnum than like Andrew Carnegie, but he’s the product of Republikan rabble rousing — kind of like a sorcerer’s apprentice that got hold of the magic wand and is using it to wreak destruction on those who richly deserve it.

Does the US deserve him? We do if we go on being the stupidest, most ill informed, narrow minded bozos in history.

He clearly knows how to say things that people like to hear. It’s obvious that many people are fed up with “politics as usual”. I hope that he – and the Republican voters – realize that the presidency involves more than saying things that make you popular! The fact that he has four – count them FOUR – bankruptcies to his name and numerous FAILED businesses tells me that he talks louder and more confidently than he acts, even if you do agree with the nonsense that he spouts!

I don’t agree with him at all….then again it isn’t my place to as he’s American and has, more or less, nothing to do with me.

Every word you say Marsha is spot on but, as I said, he is ‘saying things’ that, I suspect, many Americans are thinking and, even if they don’t particularly like him or even agree with some of what he says, he is ‘striking a chord’ as they say.

The Republicans tried to set Mitt Romney on him as if that would do any good.

Mitt Romney? Oh, yeah, the guy who didn’t win. He’ll upset the Trump apple cart…not.

He’s all yours America! Have fun! 😉

He is dangerous to America and to the world. What makes it worse is millions of people love him.
