Our Liberal Hating Englishman Denies He Hates Liberals

Read Time:5 Minute, 5 Second

by Neil Bamforth

I will do my best to tread carefully here. Every time I have the audacity to be even remotely critical of liberals I get my throat metaphorically ripped out. Very liberal of you I’m sure. The last time I tried to be constructively critical of a liberal stance I was dismissed as ‘liberal hating’ so let’s get that out the way first shall we?

I do not and have never hated liberals. Actually, with the possible exception of ISIS, Brussels sprouts, Oldham Athletic not winning and telephone cold callers I have never hated anything or anyone. In fact I’m not sure I even hate the aforementioned. Perhaps ‘pisses me off’ would be more accurate.

‘Hate’ is a very strong negative emotion and, on the whole, it is better if you avoid it – a bit like herpes and AIDS and the like. It will do you no good at all.

So, I do not hate liberals. I do, sometimes, laugh at them. I do, sometimes, agree with them. I do, sometimes, want to slap them around the head but I do not, under any circumstances or for any reason under the sun hate them.

Ok? Savvy? Comprende?

Right. Let’s get on. ‘Will the liberal backlash become counter productive?’

No idea. Having said that it just might.

Where are we now then? We are at the start of a Trump Presidency. We are at the start of Britain leaving the European Union. We may or may not be looking at a French right winger called Marine Le Pen taking power in France – I suspect she won’t but, then again, I doubted Trump would happen so I’d rather leave my personal polling ability out of this article thank you very much.

What we are looking at, without a shadow of a doubt, is a general swing to the right politically speaking in many western democracies.

Now, this, from a liberal perspective, is clearly a very bad thing. I get that. It is not necessarily a very good thing from my own perspective albeit I can be far more pragmatic about it and actually reason why it is happening but, what ever, this is where we are.

RELATED: When Thinking Can Become Dangerous

Liberals in particular, in America and, after Prime Minister May invited hamster head over to Britain, in Britain too have been out on the streets protesting against him.

That is fair enough. We can do that sort of thing because we are democracies and have a thing called ‘freedom of speech’. We are all, I suspect, eternally grateful for that.

We can rant and rave on social media until the cows come home – where did that saying come from by the way? Always puzzled me. Isn’t it odd we say things but have no idea where it came from or why? Odd.

Anyway, digressing again.

We can rant away on social media. We can start petitions to ban Trump from Britain – which ain’t gonna happen. We can do all that because we can.

We can march about in various bits of America with banners saying ‘Not my President’ and ‘Impeach him’ and so forth because we can.

The thing is – and I admit this may be specific to Britain, you tell me – we always support the ‘underdog’. It’s genetic in Britain, well, at least it is in the England bit of Britain. We cheer on the underdog to the extent that I have heard and, indeed, joined in, cheering on a ‘foreign’ football (soccer) team playing England.

Iceland beat England to our disgrace but I, and many more English fans began cheering Iceland on as we realised what a great piece of footballing history we were witnessing. The fact England were on the receiving end ceased eventually to matter. We cheered on the minnows of Iceland to a great victory – er – against ourselves.

You see, they were the underdogs and there’s nothing like the ‘underdog’ winning – at least that’s the case in England.

Given where we are right now with Trump I’m starting to wonder whether he will ultimately bring himself down and, if he does, great. All well and good.

The thing is, if he doesn’t, if liberals continue to shout and scream and march against him, is it just possible that further down the line, if he survives as President, that in a couple of years he will almost be perceived in some quarters as the underdog?

I suspect you will poo-poo the very idea but think about it.

You aren’t dealing with logic here, you are dealing with humanity and logic has no place in dealings with humanity.

Tactically I believe liberals in America should just sit back and await events. The likelihood is Trump will screw himself. Of course he might not. He might survive for an entire term. Who knows?

The thing is my liberal chums, it’s a bit like ‘the boy who cried wolf’. I know you are right, you know you are right but, if liberals continue to verbally pulverise Trump, sooner or later an increasing number who, at the moment, are ambivalent about him, will probably start feeling sorry for the mad bastard and you’ll only have yourselves to blame for that unlikely but feasible eventuality.

I’m theorising here of course in what passes for my mind.

I am not being critical of liberals in America – and no I don’t bloody hate liberals Mike before you start 🙂

I’m just slightly concerned that even the craftiest poker player can overplay their hand and, given the tidal wave of anti-Trump stuff emanating from liberal America, I fear that may be exactly what you will eventually do.

Besides. Ignore him. Don’t acknowledge him. If you do he gets publicity and, I reckon, he’ll get enough of that without any help from you guys.

Don’t make him the underdog. Don’t make him the martyr. You think you aren’t? Well, no you aren’t – yet. Carry on as you are and mark my words in a couple of years if he’s survived – Then tell me I was wrong.

#notmypresident #whinylittlebitch will set the world on fire, if he is allowed too but don’t worry we liberals will come and pick up the pieces afterwards and we won’t even say I told you so, because we want what is best for everyone not just the chosen few.

After your nation being saved in two world wars by Democrat Presidents one would think all you Brits would love liberals. I guess we can thank Margaret Thatcher and her stomping of the mighty and evil Argentina in the Falklands thing made you forget that.

Neil, my friend, this is not a soccer match. When Drumpf begins screwing up where our national security is concerned the consequences may be more than, “That’s OK, we will get them next time.” If Drumpf and his billionaire cronies, along with the gleeful Republicans, destroy Medicare, Social Security, and the Affordable Care Act, millions of people will suffer, including me since I count on Social Security to a large degree along with medicare. Trump was put in office by a bunch of dissatisfied people who had not had an original idea in their entire life and never thought beyond his catch phrase, “Make America Great Again.” They thought that suddenly the streets of America were going to be paved with gold because he said as much. Give Trump’s team credit in the sense that they shrewdly put together an election that got him the electoral votes, but his idea of governing is like a child playing with toys. It just does work because he says its going to work. There is a Constitution that that has to be followed as well as laws. Those that are screaming for him now are the same ones that made it difficult, if not impossible in some cases for Obama to accomplish a lot of things. Now they have got their way but those of us who believe in trivial things like following the law are not going to suddenly forget that had the Republicans cooperated with Obama the Affordable Care Act would have likely covered three times as many people and the premiums would not be a third of the cost today. There is also a good chance that minimum wages would have been raised across the country.
In short my friend, this is simply those who want the government working for them and not against them. A lot of these people in the street protesting are people that are going to lose a lot if Drumpf and the Republicans get their way. Possible the only card they have to play is to at least hold them to following the Constitution and the laws because Drumpf does not know what he is doing.

Of course you hate liberals. All you do is bash them, from one story to another, bash, bash, bash “I don’t hate liberals” bash, bash, bash “I don’t hate liberals,” bash, bash, bash. I’d have more respect for you if you just came out and admitted you hate liberals. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
