Britain’s Booklet Guide To Addressing Ethnic Minorities

Read Time:2 Minute, 56 Second

by Neil Bamforth

You couldn’t make it up could you? Well, I suppose you could but what would be the point? Everyone would just Google it and say “You’re lying!” and, if you had made it up, you would indeed be lying. I almost wish I was making this up. It’s so bizarre in a politically correct sense that I wonder whether Britain really has vanished under a plethora of politically correct garbage.

Sandra Kerr OBE – and no, I’d never heard of her either until this morning – has written a booklet telling white people how they should speak to ethnic minorities. Seriously. She has.

I have no idea why she got an OBE – hang on whilst I check – AH! Race Equality Director. Look no further then.

Now this Sandra is of African Caribbean descent. She has taken to calling black and Asian ethnic groups BAME’s which stands for ‘Black Asian Minority Ethnics’. Does that mean I can say ‘Hi Bame’ I wonder? Probably not. I get in enough trouble saying ‘Hi babe’ to women I know sometimes.

Well I do if the wife hears me. 😉

Anyway. Sandra Kerr OBE has written this handbook for white people – presumably on the grounds that she thinks white people are invariably thick and / or racist and /or confused and /or ignorant and / or all of those things.

An alternative view of course is that black and Asian people should also be given a handbook on how to speak to white people.

And let’s not forget the Chinese and the Arabs. If they don’t get a booklet too on how to talk to white people, black people (unless they are black but some Arabs are not) and Asian people, not to mention the Chinese then surely this booklet is racist?

I’ve just realized. You can’t say ‘oriental’ anymore according to my daughter – when did that happen? What do you say? Is it Eastern Asian to include Vietnam and so forth? Would the booklet for Chinese be fine for them or would they need their own?

What about people of any color from the North East of England? They’re called Geordies and, frankly, nobody has a bloody clue what they’re saying at the best of times. A booklet would be very useful to translate what the hell Geordies are saying.

Have you ever heard anything so half baked and ridiculous?

A booklet advising white people how to speak to BAME’s, as they are now apparently labeled by this lunatic woman.

I always thought political correctness was absolutely loopy and, as time goes by, more and more lunatics pop out of nowhere and prove it time and time again.

Doesn’t the dizzy mare realize that, in producing such a mind numbingly stupid booklet, all she is doing is adding to the confusion and distrust? Is she really so idiotic that she can’t see that?

Well, obviously she is.

Mind you, if someone so clearly unhinged can get an OBE I must be in line for a knighthood soon. Don’t worry, if I get a knighthood I’ll employ Sandra to write a booklet for you so you’ll know how to address me.

Incidentally, on TV show Good Morning Britain three black chaps tore Sandra to shreds and told her she was wrong – as indeed she is.

By the way, if you think I’ve jumped in a wee bit early for April Fools Day then by all means go check it out.

Insane? Yes. True? Incredibly yes also.

The lunatics continue to take over the asylum.

Well, I’m as confused as anyone but I’m tired of all the generalization and hate. I think people are all the same and if we lived in Rwanda, the racism would be the same only it would be all black people angry at the black privilege of other black people.

So I really don’t care any more – I’m sorry if I offended anyone because it’s too much work to explain why, so I’ll just say I’m sorry. it’s the end of everything anyway.

Glenn I agree with you, but, while things look bleak in the US and the world, I think this too will pass. Keeping in mind I’m not an optimist by any stretch of the imagination, hasn’t the world always been in chaos? I do think the Coming of the Trump has changed the face of America, and her standing in the world, but I also know someday it will be over, and this monstrous man will be gone. So, I don’t think it’s the “end of everything,” depressing as things are. I still think there’s hope.

“White haters” and “white privilege”. What’s all that about?

I think some white people are feeling a bit bashed about.

I don’t but I can see why some could.

I think I’ll article it. Too long for a comment but, in a nutshell…

I think some white people are starting to feel their very whiteness is being got at.

As I say. Article to follow.

Now my mental meltdowns finished 😀

Whoa!!! Shit’s goin’ down over here now. Neil has a point and he doesn’t. But so does everyone else. Quite frankly, and no doubt I’ll be pilloried and pawed for this but I resent being told how to act. I also resent this constant drumbeat of “white privilege.” What the fuck does that even mean? I see where Neil is coming from. Why do we need a book? And finally as to “white privilege.” I’m white, and glad that I am, but if privileged it’s because I worked hard for everything I have. I don’t feel like I’m better than anyone else because of the color of my skin though.

There is no doubt that being white in the US can have it’s advantages, but of course that’s a generalization and generalizations are wrong – in general. The term “privilege” is selected to make it seem shameful to be of mostly european extraction. Advantage means the same thing, but it’s not as prejudicial so we don’t say that. It’s particularly insulting to the the tens of millions of struggling white people who just can’t get by no matter how they struggle. An ever increasing number.

Somehow, the people who like to call themselves liberal can’t resist rigging every term, every statistic every argument to slander and slime anyone who stands in the way. It’s almost like a religion when they insist they can assign a kind of original sin to people based on their ancestry. The argument is that I’m guilty because I benefited from slavery even though no ancestor of mine ever had one and at least one fought to end it.

That’s bullshit, everyone has benefited from all sorts of things including emancipation, public education and of course from our having won WWII.

It’s to the point where I’ve turned against so much of what I used to feel part of and for good reason. That reason is arrogance, self righteousness and a preference for denouncing and insulting and misrepresenting instead of trying to teach. It’s like Sarah Silverman said on Maher’s show recently. You don’t tell the Trumpers they’re ignorant fools, idiots and degenerates and expect a single one of them to listen to you. You don’t say that to people trying to help you either, yet it’s now standard procedure to tell me I’m a racist for saying my life and all lives matter.

See if I’m going to continue to contribute to causes run by people like that. If I were a vulgar man, I would say f*ck them all.

I just had a mental meltdown.

I am now unmelted.

Mike’s my pal. Always has been always will be.

Recent comments were as a result of a personal issue that temporarily fried what passes for my brain.

That is all.

Mike says I’m racist.

Fine. I’m sure MMA will rub along just fine.

I’ve better things to do with my time than read Bullshit.

Nice knowing you.

Mike? Me? Racist? Fuck right off.

OBE That stands for Old British Extremist, right?

Yaknow, Jess, this paragraph is a chowder of unwarranted, race, gender and ethnic assumptions. Let’s throw in a bit of snide egotistical malediction for seasoning.

Everybody claims victimhood so perhaps everybody should start listening to everybody else instead of being a soap box foghorn and calling it a conversation. After all everybody has a right to protection against contrary opinions, right?

If you think you know something and can assume something about someone based on a category you put them into, you give up any authority to lecture on race, ethnicity, religion and country of origin.

When I see the self-appointed and self-righteous assembling cults, using made up terminology and isolating and insulating their followers by damning outsiders, I walk away, and incidentally i would request you not talk to anyone at all or me in particular without consulting the appropriate manual of procedure. Henceforth please refer to me as a ROAM – Rich Old American Male. And smile when you say it or be damned as a racist. And without reading my book (available at Amazon and booksellers everywhere) perhaps it’s just time to sit there and listen to me insisting you don’t know a damn thing or have the right to talk to anyone in non-approved vocabulary.

This by the power of self proclamed victimhood, amen.

Seriously THIS is what you got from my ask from him. What I am saying is sometimes, we need to sit back and listen to the person that is going through what they are going through, without making it all about us all the time. you do you though.

Was she born in Britain with Latin/Carribean ethnicity or is she from one of those countries or should my lazy ass go look it up instead, to start in on you about this? Cursory look at her bio page does not tell me. If she was born in Britain she is BRITISH amirite? You’ve done it now, whitesplaining and hardly visible mansplaining all in the same story I am proud of you Neil. Maybe some people need a white page on talking to people of other ethnicities, because they go round talking like their white privilege is something to be proud of this day and age. here’s a hint Neil, when a guy tells me this that or the other thing and I know next to nothing about it, I would probably be quiet for a second to listen to him and get that point of view. This is the same thing, when people of color tell you hey this is happening or that is happening, you don’t see it because you were given the ultimate leg up being born white with baked in privilege, maybe it’s time to just sit for a second and listen to what is being said, instead of the whole, #not all white people, #not all men, #not all women etc etc etc.

Don’t disagree at all but a booklet? Really???

Bobbie Peel

You really need to get out more Mr. Bamforth. You see or hear something, take anything that feeds your bias and run with it.

As usual you post without anything to substantiate your claims.

https://www.bame2020.org//wp-content/uploads/2017/08/BITCCBME2020.pdf

The above link must be the booklet you speak of. Yes Miss Kerr is involved but it is a business driven organization to identify minorities in the workplace and not how to address people on the street. The terms used help organizations build a data base, to, hopefully, help society overcome its problems. Of which there are many.

An article written 2 1/2 years ago suggested getting rid of the acronym BAME, so the term is far from new as you suggest.

I wouldn’t depend on The Guardian too much Bobbie.

Aren’t you missing the point? I quite agree ethnic minorities get a raw deal in business and many things.

But a booklet for white people? Really?

A booklet won’t stop racists being racist. What it does do is irritate sensible people.

3 black chaps on TV were well annoyed.

I’m with them.

Sandra is using BAME now. She’s an idiot.

Some would say a booklet won’t stop racists such as yourself old bean, but hey, what do I know? 🙂 Just a thought in passing. Better I say it first.

Since when am I a racist?

Anyone dares to question immigration – racist.

Question integration – racist.

Question anything that the left hold dear – racist fascist.

I’m many things but I know I’m not a racist just cause I believe you want to live in Britain YOU adapt we don’t.

If that’s racist in your world I’m sorry for you.

You just called me a racist.

I’m done. Goodbye.
