The Democrats Need Joe Biden in 2020
When it comes to who is going to run for president in 2020, democrats don’t seem to have a lot of ideas. Kamala Harris, an impressive senator from California, is being talked about, but she’s relatively new to the national stage. Bernie Sanders is being talked about, but more by his fanatic supporters, than the former candidate himself.
There are a lot more of course, but these two names, along with one more, seem to top the list. So who is that one more? Why Joe Biden of course!
The former vice president has made a number of prophetic remarks in the past few days, including telling Oprah, “I regret that I’m not president.” He added, however, that his decision not to run was “right for the family.”
Tragically, Biden lost his son Beau in May 2015, from cancer. The family was devastated by the loss, and rather than try to get a seat in the Oval Office, Joe Biden moved to the beaches of Delaware where he spends his time lounging outside the local bookstore with his dog and taking occasional speaking gigs.
Biden, however, hasn’t ruled out a possible presidential run in 2020. A Friday story from Politico outlined the possible path that Biden might take in the future.
The fact is, he might be one of the last strong leaders the Democrats can run. Obama is out of the game, and Hillary Clinton has failed them last year. For establishment Democrats, there aren’t too many horses in town, and the best horse might just be Joe Biden.

Perhaps the point is that what survives of the Democratic party looks more like a loose confederation striving to be looser. Is there a unifying philosophy or principle? Anything more broad than bathroom assignments? Apparently not enough to make the disparate elements go to the polls. I like people like Adam Schiff, but we always grasp at straws because there really are few apparent choices.
Schiff is a courageous guy, but not too well known beyond us politics, news loving folk.
I loves me some old handsome Joe, but we need new blood in the party. Kamala Harris would be a good choice and I am one of the lucky ones that did get to vote for her as my senator so there is that. If we are looking at women, Kristin Gillibrand would be my choice, let Kamala get some more experience under her belt. Adam Schiff would be another choice and I would love Ted Lieu to do something more than just being a rep, he pisses off right wingers 140, now 280, characters at a time.
I’m with you Jess on all picks.
I am hoping beyond hope that when joe Lieberman in a skirt, Feinstein, decides to retire Lieu or Schiff make a run for her seat. That’s as far as he, Lieu, can go having not been born in these here United States so president is ruled out, unless he wants to run for CA gov at a later date. We need him right where he is right now and he’s still in his 40s.
I’m afraid Joe is just going to be a bit too old. Hope not, but still.
Joe is an acceptable face for the Democrats, but an old one. He will be 76 in 2020. The party needs new, younger faces and I don’t see any. The midterm elections are a year away, long time in political life, but potentially democrats could make big gains. Then what? Trumps ego will force him to run again, against who? I despair sometimes.
I despair daily. I do like Kamala Harris, and would happily support her. I can’t support Bernie because I think he’s unelectable.
She is an interesting character and just one of many new faces needed.
Against whom
LOL! Pretty sure it was just an oversight 🙂
