Why ‘American Exceptionalism’ Is No Longer A Point of Pride

Read Time:40 Second

by Richard Schloss

Only one nation in the entire world now refuses to accept the science of climate change: the United States. We are also the only nation to steadfastly refuse to use the Metric System, the only developed nation that doesn’t guarantee health care access to all its citizens, and the only nation that has not restricted access to guns despite frequent mass shootings.

“American Exceptionalism” is no longer a point of pride, but a sickening realization that we are out of step with the rest of the world, and falling further behind all the time. This is due largely to unbridled greed, to multiple serious flaws in our political system, and to the continued irrational influence of religion on our public policy in defiance of constitutional church-state separation.

All of the “out of step” things you mention existed well before the Trump nightmare. It’s nothing new.

Can’t agree there. Difference between “out of step” and walking side by side with a rare stumble. With respect.

Short, concise and to the point. Exceptional actually.

Americans are full of themselves. Prideful and scornful of others. We are a sad lot indeed.

Any “exceptionalism” we might have had ended on November 8, 2016,
