Yet Another Mass Shooting For An Uncaring Congress To Ponder

Read Time:2 Minute, 50 Second

by Bill Formby

I turned on the TV this afternoon to watch some good old fashion refereed violence as I usually do on Sunday afternoon. You know, where two teams of eleven, usually huge men line up across from each other and try to create mayhem to members of the opposite side.

To my surprise before I got to that channel I passed over MSNBC and that forbidding sign was on the screen, “BREAKING NEWS.” I stopped there anticipating something about Trump declaring war against Japan because the Prime Minister of Japan called him out for cheating at golf.

Instead, unfortunately, another good old boy had exercised his right to be armed and dangerous in a small community in Texas. I do not mean to make light of the incident but is this going to keep going on a regular basis. A young man by the name of David Patrick Kelley took his semi automatic rifle and, for some yet unknown reason, decided to turn a rural church into a killing ground. He started by firing from outside the church and then went into the church and continued shooting.

At the time I am writing this there are 26 people dead. Twenty-five were dead at the scene and another died after transport. It is unknown precisely how many people were wounded but estimates were around twenty. So if Mr. Kelley was intending to top the Vegas record he was, uh huh, preaching at the wrong church. The satire is meant to convey my disdain for those who sit in the legislative branches of the various governmental bodies and do not have balls or boobs enough to step up and try to actually find an answer to these events.

Now I am a rational person, I think, and I know that there is no easy answer to this problem. However, at some point someone has to step forward and start trying to do something. Someone has to show sufficient courage to tell the NRA to f*ck off we are going to at least work at finding an answer because doing nothing has resulted in nothing but more dead bodies. I said that I am rational which should tell the readers that I know it will not be the current president. In my opinion, he not only does not have the balls to do it, he is also not smart enough to help come up with something to even try.

America today is a rudderless ship drifting about at the whim of Trump’s Twitter account. He is so consumed with screaming about Hillary Clinton and her dealings with the Democratic National Committee, which by the way should be none of his damned business. He is being paid to work for the American people, not worry about the Democrats. His own party, the Republicans, can’t get out of their own way to accomplish anything and he is worrying about the Democrats. And, as I heard someone say, Nero fiddled while his people died at his feet.

OK, that’s my little rant for now and I know it is all for naught. I think we all know that the majority of balls and boobs have been taken hostage by the NRA and the big money money people like the Kochs have them lock in a vault somewhere and they have lost the damned key. Hurry up 2020.

Not quite sure who these people are who are attempting to make white people ashamed of being white. Who are they? And why would they do that? I’ve been around white people all my life and find them pretty shameless, some of them to the point of extreme arrogance.

I’ve been a white person all my life and can but concur.

Black people make up about 13% of the population, so that line of thinking is bogus. In any discussion of guns all we hear are the preconceived notions of the participants that they cling to like lifejackets and guess what. This guy was stopped by a good guy with a gun. That’s the second time for church shootings in the last month or so.

The legitimate argument, in my opinion, is that in this instance anyway, a background check might have got in the way of his purchasing a gun, but hell, it very well might not have. He might have had one for 20 years and There’s black market.

This guy had a history of assault and a dishonorable discharge and a restraining order against him. It may already have been illegal to own one, but as I said, enforcement is a bitch will all the guns out there.

Instead of arguing and opinionizing, we could start to make progress by trying to slowly get rid of those 30 – 100 round magazines and why the hell have we forgotten about bump stocks? It will be a long process and it will never be complete because Americans love guns. and there may be nearly 300 million of them out there many hidden away.

Not quite Glenn. He was fired at as he left the church. He was followed/chased/pursued by two civilians and took his own life. Did they stop him from killing more people, we don’t know
We can assume he was trying to survive since he was wearing a vest for protection. After wrecking his truck he shot himself. According to his father he told him he said he did not think he was going to survive his shot. The black issue is odd. There were no blacks involved in this entire process. I do think the issue of the percentage of the population that is black is intetesting. According to what I understand, if a person has even 1% of black in their DNA they are black. As much as the slave owners used to fool around with the female slaves, and occasionally the reverse, there are probably a lot more blacks running around than admit it or even know it. What is another interesting aspect of this discussion is that we all share about 1% of our DNA with chimps. 🙂

No Mike, he is right. First, when was the last time an African American actually was involved in a mass murder situation. If I am not mistaken it was probably in Dallas and before that I think it was a work place violence at the Navy Yard in New York. It is also true that some blacks have adopted the Muslim faith. This actually goes back to the 1960s. To my knowledge the terrorist acts, as they generally choose to define them so, are usually people of some color other than white. I do not think it unusual in any mass murder situation for people to at first wonder if it is radicalized Islamic attack. We prefer to think that anyone in this land of milk and honey would even consider a mass killing. Well, those days are gone. This was some shithead that was having domestic problems that had been simmering for a while who decided that anyone and everyone was going to pay for his grievances. To explain this to the general public it is easier to say that he was crazy, deranged, nuts, or what whatever. You and I likely know that there are a lot of David Patrick Kelleys out there just waiting for the right spark to set them off.
As far as being ashamed of being white, I don’t know where that is coming from other than the fact that people in the country normally associated crime with blackness. I know, and I am sure you know, that most often in a mass shooting or a serial killing situation it is almost always going to be a white male, or lately someone radicalized to ISIS. But, we no one is killing because of their race, things are what they are. In the overwhelming number of cases of killing in the country if you look at the race of the victim you know the race of the killer. The exception being where a terrorist act is concerned be it domestic or foreign.
My main point is this; we need to focus on what is important about these attacks, especially those that are not terrorist attacks. The news keeps saying these are senseless attacks but they are not. While you nor I may not understand the reasoning behind them, there is a reason that was important to the killer. At some point this country is going to have to come to grips with that fact and work toward an understanding of those reasons. Our biggest failings to date is the assumption that everyone is lucid, rational, and sane so they deserve to have access to and type weapon they choose until proven otherwise.

I don’t dispute the facts Bill, only the fact that I’m sick and tired of being accused of having some sort of “white privilege.” That’s just bullshit.

I did not say that and if you are guilty of then I am as well and I don’t feel that way. What is really odd is that is brought up in a situation where there are nothing but white folks involved. I am not sure I got very many, if any, breaks growing up because I was a white kid and I doubt that you did either. Remember that no one can make you feel bad about your race or gender unless you let them. Only you know the real story so ignore what others say. Also, you were not appointed to stand up for the white race. Every person is responsible for their actions.

Some media outlets in Britain are asking ‘Why is that a white person who does this is mentally ill whilst a black person or Muslim is a terrorist?’

My thoughts are anyone who does this is clearly mentally ill.

My deepest sympathies to a nation that has, frankly, had more than it’s share of tragedy.

Same BS going on here. I’m sick and tired of this black/white nonsense. There are people over here who clearly want white people to be somehow ashamed of being white. Fuck that!
