In Trump World Ignorance is Strength

Read Time:5 Minute, 44 Second

It may seem that I have finally lost my last marble and wandered off into the land of impossible conspiracy theories. If you think that, you may well be correct, but I will write it anyway and hope that I have just slid too far down the hill of Trump terror.

When Trump announced his run for the presidency almost no one gave him a chance to win, including yours truly. He was one of a string of Republican candidates who all had much stronger resumes. To even consider him winning the primary was sheer folly. But, on the way to the nomination a weird thing happened; he won. Very strange, but true.

Then came the race for the presidency against Hillary Clinton and, surely, he couldn’t win.  He knew nothing about foreign policy and very little about domestic policy. He was clearly a racist and a nationalist. Not a chance in hell of winning the race. But, somehow he did. Call it luck, a smart campaign, a lousy campaign by Clinton, or call it the stars being in the wrong place for most of America, but he won.

Once in office, he began to dismantle pretty much everything that had been holding this country together since “in the beginning”. Certain traditions, cultural beliefs, concepts, and ideas about right and wrong were challenged.

His attacks began and continue to make sure nothing that his predecessor had accomplished stays in place. In a flurry of doing away with Executive Orders, a number of things that we had taken for granted, were suddenly gone.

The EPA was virtually gutted of regulations. His idea was two regulations had to be wiped out for any new was put in place including those dealing with having clean air and water.

He finally managed to get at least a partial ban on Muslims entering the country. He pulled us out of the worldwide climate accords and shocked the world by declaring that we would move our embassy to Jerusalem.

This was back enough that it was probably the first time that the United Nations has passed a resolution condemning the United States. The vast majority of the world voted against us. He promptly threw a fit, and threaten virtually the whole world and the UN with pulling back American Aid. Something like, “I’ll take my toys and go home.” if you know what I mean.

But through all of this, he has had one underlying theme. Disrespecting the traditions of his office and how it should be carried out. Disrespecting the underpinnings of the country’s democratic way of operating. Disrespecting the freedom of the press and of the very governmental agencies under his control. The highlights of demeaning his Attorney General to the public, demeaning the finest Law Enforcement agency in the world, the FBI, and bullying through a tax reform that is really a tax cut for the wealthy and the corporations while leaving the average person out in the cold after the first two years.

He has weakened the separation of powers by having his minions in Congress get on board his bandwagon about the incompetent FBI and the corrupt Special Counsel.

A quick note here; if you notice he starts the demeaning of whoever or whatever he is after and gets his followers going in that direction then pull back while they attack. Example, he is now saying he thinks the Special Counsel will be fair while his followers in Congress and Fox News look to remove him.

He is, right now as close to being a dictator as this country has ever seen. How difficult would it be for him to actually take over the country if this path continues? Everyone keeps saying, “He won’t do this, or he can’t get away with that.” But he does it and no one stops him.

He is already in violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution and no one has raised a hand. It has been said that no one is above the law but there seems to be an exception for Donald Trump.

Trump is making good money off the taxpayers by using his resorts for his getaways. Most presidents have used Camp David but Trump goes to Mar Largo or his Resort in New Jersey.

When Trump became president he doubled the membership dues from $100,000 to $200,000 per year at Mar Largo. When he visits the country has to pay the resort for the lodging and meals for his staff and security, and they must pay the local police for the extra cost they incur because of his visits.

The same goes for his resort in New Jersey or any of his other resorts. Since there is no secret that Trump owns these places any and all profits for this income from the treasury goes to him or his company. To anyone else that would be a clear conflict of interest. But, no one raises it in a serious claim.

Trump has normalized behaviors that no one would have ever stood for before. Not Obama, George Bush, Bill Clinton, Not Even Ronald Reagan. First of all, they were better people than Trump and at least respected the office publicly. It seems that the more audaciously Trump steps out of the norm the more people are afraid to challenge him.

The news media brings it up to the people, he calls it fake news, and it slowly slips away. I think most people are awaiting the Special Prosecutor to step forward to save the day. But, if he owns, body and soul, the Department of Justice, who will enforce his findings. If the FBI has been so demeaned that they cannot act without permission from the Attorney General, will Sessions act?

Congress right now is just following along with him because they are getting what they want. It may be too late to stop him by the time they try to do anything.

Years ago I read “Seven Days in May” by Kim Izzo which was a political thriller that went on to be a successful movie. In it, the bad guys were the military trying to take over the government. What if it was the president trying to taking over the government.

As I said at the beginning, I have probably lost my last marble but with the way Trump has become the piper leading the rats to certain death, I still have to wonder.

A recent commenter to one of Glenn Geist’s posts observed: “I’m 99.9% certain that Trump has not read Orwell’s 1984. Perhaps his advisors have, “Ignorance Is Strength” could have been written with him in mind.”

I believe that either or some of his people have tried to explain it to him. All they would need would be an alleged warring partner for Oceania. Russian anyone?

If Trump doesn’t get ousted, one way or another, you know, perhaps with one Big Mac too many, then I think we’re fucked to 2020.

Mike, by then he will have delegitimized every instution in the country. At that point he may well declare the Constitution null and void.

His attacks on women and especially women of color are especially revolting among all the revolting stuff he has been doing. he never once has said anything bad about Putin but attacks those who do. It is like they just lifted stuff from 1984 and said, ok we will be using this as our guideline now, same thing goes for Handmaid’s Tale instruction manual to make us into the republic of Gilead.

To me he seems to be doing just that, except, of course, he will call it United States of Trump and charge the treasury for using his name.
