Silence of the Sheep

Read Time:1 Minute, 17 Second

by Glenn R. Geist

This morning, Thursday’s statement was still running on the MSNBC crawl as Willie Geist was signing off for Joe and Mika. I still feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach.

If this isn’t exactly how the world ends, something certainly has ended although I don’t know how many people will realize it.

Yesterday the President of the United States said the following:

“I have [the] absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department,”

If Louis XIV didn’t say just that, it would only have been because he was the justice department: the State itself, and well before the rise of the French Republic it could not be questioned.

Where was the thunderclap? The shaking of the ground, the darkening of the sun? Did the Constitution of the United States, protected in its envelope of inert Argon gas, darken and curl or burst into flame? Did the Washington monument topple, the Jefferson memorial collapse in on itself?

No, but there were loud voices talking about restoring the power of churches, praising oligarchy and corporate lawlessness and unitary power; voices clamoring for “greatness.”

No shots were fired when Stephen Miller told us:

“the powers of the president to protect our country are very substantial and will not be questioned.”

Indeed, how many questions were asked at all about what “protecting the country” consists of as the administration announced its plan to assume the power of the courts?  Silence, or just a mutter of resignation; a whimper, if you will.

You know what is really funny is that all of those folks that used to stomp around about their rights under the 2nd Amendment do not see the danger here. Trump will, at some point, have to remove the potential threat of an armed insurrection. His lower grabbing knows no limitation. It is like a scene from a White House down type movie except it becomes the congress that is down. With 30% of the population being his unquestioning minions he could easily be setting the stage for declaring martial law. He is setting the stage for essentially firing the entire justice department which would essentially strip them of their enforcement powers. Taking control of Congress because they are working against him making America Great. Folks, for perhaps the first time in history someone has gotten into a position to take over the entire government and he has gotten there by getting enough people to question our governments legitimacy.

You are so right Bill, and I don’t see anything getting better, on the contrary, the Big Pig is emboldened. Congress passed “his” the tax bill, and he sees that as some sort of legislative achievement, one that catapults him to the “I can do anything now and no one will care” region of his twisted mind.

My hope is that he will go so far off the rails that congress will have no choice. We have to remember what a very small minority he has.

Saying he can do whatever he wants, and doing whatever he wants are two different things.

True, but with a friendly, almost sycophantic Congress, he can get close.

That interview was frightening in its insanity.
