When is a Crook not a Crook?

Read Time:1 Minute, 28 Second

by Glenn R. Geist

A crook is not a crook when he’s still president, of course.

“The tweet did not admit obstruction. That is an ignorant and arrogant assertion.”

Said John Dowd, Donald Trump’s lawyer.

Sometimes these things write themselves. Remember when “the president is not above the law” was the cardboard sign stuck in front of the camera? Remember when they accused Democratic presidents of acting like kings? Was it Gretchen who pretended to be aghast that Obama had appointed a “Czar” of something or other, even though the media invented the usage?

My have things changed! Today the President’s Lawyer assures us that he is indeed above the law so he can’t be guilty of obstruction. He IS the law you see and we’re ignorant and arrogant for insinuating he could be called to account.

Ignorant and arrogant. Perhaps this will join “Well, I am not a crook” in the annals of presidential perfidy. Perhaps not. All that appears to stand between America and its first king is the massive financing of corporate feudalism and the inexhaustible reservoir of creative dishonesty surrounding the mad king. Look at how we love royalty. Look at how the proles love him for acting like the hero king, come to turn tables and free them from bondage as only a king could do.

Of course a lawyer’s opinion is like the opinions we hear on TV from paid endorsers.  Of course it’s a good idea to borrow 125% of your home’s value to “jump on a hot stock”  But the articles of impeachment against Tricky Dick cited obstruction and a certain party was all too happy to accuse Clinton of it. But here I go again: Ignorant and arrogant and of course he’s not a crook.

Nixon had his troubles for certain, but he got a lot done during his time as president, which is more than one can say for Trump.

I’d take Nixon over Trump any day. Compared to Trump he’s an altar boy.
