In this case, it’s the “Infrastructure Week” storyline. Go back into that fog that is the recent past. All the way back. Back even before yesterday. Go back to 2017 – the Year of Dumbass “Weeks.” One of the most abysmal failures in a year of abysmal failures was “Infrastructure week.” (Infastrushure, in Trump-speak).
So, Putin’s butt-pal – America’s first quantifiably insane Chief Executive – was all set to drag this rehashed canard out of mothballs, with a FUCKING TWEET, Monday morning, and a speech, in the afternoon.
But Obama’s unveiling of his and Michelle’s portraits, at the National Gallery of the Smithsonian, occurred at the same time on Monday. My President was his usual, smart, understated, and funny self. His speech was peppered with jokes, and heavily weighted with humility and intelligence. But Michelle! Michelle brought the house to its knees. Man, can that woman speak, or what? As she bordered on tears, so did we – the American audience.
It felt almost eerie. Seeing two intelligent speeches. Words strung together, complete sentences, Abashed humility, inclusion, sanity, and above all, a sense of human decency. Obama, in retirement, is more of a statesman than our current disaster is a competent golfer.
