Washed Away By the Tide of Trump

Read Time:2 Minute, 4 Second

by Glenn R. Geist

If you could somehow harness the immeasurable power of the sea, one of those things that actually is awesome after decades of that word’s erosion, you could do anything, destroy almost anything.

The mindless, angry sea: too frequently, somewhere on Florida’s Atlantic coast some ill-prepared and overconfident soul disappears forever, paddling off from the beach or motoring out of or into an inlet – and of course the sea, in its season comes ashore to visit, leaving only devastation.

Mankind is like a sea, dumb, implacable, destructive, but far more controllable. When it’s idiot rage comes ashore, our flimsy constructs, like reason, truth, justice, and progress hardly stand a chance.

I got a message this morning. Someone had posted a vicious, poorly spelled but confident diatribe against Obama and pro-Trump on a friend’s page – extolling the great success of Trump’s economic boom and I replied to it.

I pointed out that even though there had been a continuation of an 8-year bull market that started right after Bush left office, leaving behind 8 years of no job growth and the worst recession in living memory, it was not attributable to anything that happened since the last election as any economist would tell you.

Her reply was rather like dropping a Mentos into a diet coke but included predictions of Obama’s upcoming trial for treason.

Of course, that was just before the 600 point drop that cost me more than she’s likely to make in the next 20 years, but waves will crash on a sandy beach or a basalt cliff without care. It’s a wave.

Whence come these waves of angry ignorance? Angry and ignorant people have always been and will always be with us, but the storm, the tide is generated and ridden by ill intent; by crusading parties looking for power and profit.

There is all the power of the world lurking in those angry masses and all the ill intent needed in men from crusading popes to sociopathic Bolsheviks to Fascists in shiny boots to the Republican Party to justify and direct their fury.

You can’t stand up to the power of the sea. I don’t know how well we can stand up to the massed waves of misinformed morons, but it doesn’t look good to me. Who will there be to help us reconstruct what’s been washed away by the tide of Trump?

One thing for sure. This idiot is leaving a mess that whoever follows him will have zero chance of cleaning up. Then the republicans will blame the poor guy that follows Trump for everything and the deluded fools that love Trump will believe it.
I agree with Timmy. We are fucked.

No more afraid than I am. He’s a cornered animal and I think the evidence of money laundering, receiving stolen goods in return for favors to Russia and others is reaching a critical point. Yes, a war is the tradition and Both Bushes profited from the “rally ’round the flag” effect.

Of course when he starts accusing his opponents of treason when they don’t applaud his grotesque lies makes my blood run cold.

If he does attack N Korea, it may be done out of jealousy

I’m with Mike when it comes to Trump and NK. I would bet this fat fuck will attack the other fat fuck, and we’ll all be fucked.

I’m afraid of your trump, and so are a lot of us in the UK and all over I suppose. What did you yanks go and do electing him?

A brilliant metaphor which causes me to wonder how many will die before this storm passes.

I fully anticipate Herr Trump to attack NK because he needs a crisis to remain in office, and to go down in history, as a Hitler or less likely a Roosevelt. This guy doesn’t give a partridge pie about people but only himself. When he’s done it will take a Herculean effort to clean away his detritus.

The cleanup will be like nothing seen in history, and in many, if not most cases, some cannot be undone. America elected a monster and monsters, before harnessed or killed, can do great damage indeed.
