What Happens to Our Consciousness When We Die?
Clinically, we understand death to mean the state that takes hold after our hearts stop beating. Blood circulation comes to a halt, we don’t breathe, our brains shut down—and that’s what divides the states we occupy from one moment (alive) to the next (dead). Philosophically, though, our definition of death hinges on something else: the point…

If there are brainwaves, you’re not dead. The brain can function in part and in certain ways for a time after breathing and pulse cease and so the babble “doctors report” and such, I’m sure these anecdotes either never happened, or are being described inaccurately. I read an article by a doctor who said he put a sign in large letters on top of a filing cabinet which no “back from teh dead” patient ever reported seeing and the out-of body experience can be replicated by stimulating certain areas of the brain in a living person.
“certain genes are operating?” I recognize that barn smell and perhaps you do too. Not ever cell dies simultaneously. BUT When you’re dead, you’re dead. That’s what dead means: there’s no more you. There is no more collection of ego defenses that constitutes an ego. There’s no more light when the bulb burns out and there is no more of the pattern of electrochemical activity when there are no more operating brain cells any more than the data in my hard drive lives on in some data heaven somewhere outside the universe when the drive is destroyed.
Dead, kaput, deceased, defunct, departed, gone.
Death is part of life. There was no before and no after. This doesn’t preclude being reborn as a mosquito.
Note to self, have person do that ask the pope his name thing three times like Beetlejuice, when you die, to make damn sure before cremation you are in fact all the way dead.
LOL! Cremation is the way, the truth and the light (LOL) for me, and the whole Beetlejuice naming thing is a good idea.
