There are a lot of dirtbags in the world, but, for those who abuse an animal, I can only hope there’s a special place in hell.

From Newser:

Two Missouri teens were sentenced to jail time after being convicted of dragging a helpless kitten behind a vehicle and proudly posting a video of its torturous death.

Kyle Wayne Williams, 18, and Jordan Hall, 19, were convicted of animal abuse and each was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday for the crime, which caused widespread outrage last June after it was reportedly posted to a Facebook group.

According to the Kansas City Star, prosecutors alleged Williams posted the footage in a bid to get his followers to buy him pizza.

Taney County Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Merrell said in a statement.

“We are satisfied with the sentences handed down today by the Judge for this senseless act of depravity against a helpless kitten,”

Both men pleaded guilty to an animal abuse charge and received the maximum sentence. Williams was also sentenced to three years for armed criminal action.

As a criminal justice practitioner, I am encouraged to see “justice” actually done, and am even more encouraged to see that Missouri, at least, is tightening it’s animal abuse laws, and handing down sentences appropriate to animal cruelty.

I got myself a brand new kitty this weekend. I should really not be allowed to venture out of the house. I took my friend up to Tahoe to get some skiing in and saw this tiny baby kitty outside a convenience store on the way up just shivering, all by himself, had to bring him in my car to get warmed up and now I have a new baby kitty to add to my fur pile of love. He spent all of his time at the fire side in my cabin, wrapped up like a tiny, moving, burrito in blankets. I will never understand the mind of a person that can hurt something so tiny and innocent at all.

Right after I said recently, I would foster instead of having animals come in right. Just could not leave this little guy to possible death. He is at the vet right now, being given a thorough check to make sure he will be okay. Next up, naming him. I haven’t thought of anything good yet but I was thinking maybe Olaf since I found him freezing, you know the snowman from Frozen. My dogs know something is up because they can smell him, cats are like fuck Jess, not another one that will just ignore you.

Yep, that’s why it’s a good thing I was never a cop. Takes more restraint than I ever had.
