Give it Up Greitens! Missouri Governor Must Resign After 2d Felony Charge Looms

Read Time:1 Minute, 24 Second

by Michael John Scott

On Tuesday, Missouri’s top Republican legislative leaders abandoned their very own Governor Eric Greitens, calling on him to resign instead of continuing to fight allegations that he illegally took advantage of both a charity he founded and a woman with whom he had an affair.

Greitens is already facing a May 14th trial on a felony invasion-of-privacy charge related to an extramarital affair that occurred as he was preparing to run for governor in 2015.

On Tuesday, Attorney General Josh Hawley suggested the St. Louis prosecutor could bring another felony charge against Greitens for allegedly taking the donor list from a veterans’ charity he founded and using it to raise money for his gubernatorial campaign, the AP reports.

Hawley, a Republican, said an investigation by his office shows that Greitens took computer data listing the top donors without the charity’s consent and used it for political fundraising. Legislative leaders said the potential of a second felony charge was too much for the state to bear.

“When leaders lose the ability to effectively lead our state, the right thing to do is step aside. In our view, the time has come for the governor to resign,”

House Speaker Todd Richardson said in a joint statement with House Speaker Pro Tem Elijah Haahr and House Majority Floor Leader Rob Vescovo. Greitens didn’t waste time telling them that he isn’t about to quit and hopes to be vindicated at an upcoming criminal trial.

With each passing day, it becomes more and more likely legislators could seek to force him from office anyway by simply impeaching him. After all, even Republicans have their limits, which should surprise us all.

We have to understand the history and politics of Missouri. Foe a Democrat to win the republican has to be a real scumbag. Dems need Greitens to stay in office so Claire McCaskell can beat this over rated chump Josh Hawley and keep the Senate seat for the Dems.
Hawley is tripping all over himself attacking Grietens. If Greitens resigns or gets impeached hawley is a hero and easily beats Claire. If Grietens stays Hawley is a failure who got bitch smacked and Claire wins. Not easily as Missouri loves assholes and for the most part republicans are assholes which gives them a big advantage. But I really think it’s in the Democrat Party’s interest to leave the lecherous Greitens where he is. Then sneak a right wing religious loon independent on the ballot to take some of the kook vote from Hawley. Claire has led a charmed political life. She was on the way to losing before her last opponent, Todd Akin made the ridiculous statement about women being able to spontaneoulsy abort rape induced pregnancies.

I have to recall – and recall vividly, those earnest, sincere and almost pious voices talking about “family values” for all these years: that party that included those nebulous values in every party platform at every convention. I remember the crusade against pornography on the internet, against sex education, self-gratification and for abstinence. “We have to protect marriage – the sanctity of marriage!”

And then came Trump and we saw behind the curtain; saw the legion of lascivious and priapic trolls copulating like toads in a cistern because they know it doesn’t matter any more. They’ve won. “Do as thou wilt” has become the law.

Vigorous and consistent lying has become a school of political thought and perhaps even a party. “Let’s not and say we die – lets do and say we didn’t” is an easy and effective way to collect a paycheck and benefits – lots of benefits. Truth just doesn’t matter much any more and has little influence on what the voters believe. We’re so cynical that there really is no more difference between truth and lies. Truth is something we belong to, subscribe to or are fans of so whether he’s guilty or not or should resign or not really doesn’t matter.
