But, I don’t care.
I don’t care that Trump paid off Stormy Daniels. Or that he has “Fixers” on his payroll, who work out of hotel rooms.
I don’t care that Melania was pregnant while Trump was shtupping a Playboy bunny.
I don’t care that he warned Putin and Assad before the bombing. I don’t care that the best way to help Syria – if we even give a shit – is to provide a safe harbor for the refugees. Something Obama and Hillary DID want to do, and the Republicans obstructed.
What I’m saying is we need to stop dissecting each move Trump makes – each non-sentence that spews out of his face-hole.
Trump is wrong.
I don’t mean he’s wrong in a given policy. I don’t even mean he’s wrong in his belief system or personal philosophy. I mean he’s just fuckin’ wrong.
An anachronism. A national mistake. A bad dream you can’t wake up from.
Trump wasn’t “elected.” Trump “happened.” America was proceeding through the intersection when Trump ran the red light.
So, what to do now?
Well, we can just keep on living in this “Evil-Biff” universe we’ve created, and wait for Armageddon – which is why the Evangelicals support Trump, thinking they’re going to heaven and you’re going to hell. Or we can work to restore our country to normalcy – to take the asylum back from the inmates. But if we choose the latter, we’re going to have to make some hard choices and face some difficult facts.
Like it or not, America is basically a two-party political system. Now, that was never the intent of the Founders. And yes, speaking in strictly legal terms, there are more than 2 parties. But the Legislature is divided along Republican/Democratic lines. Independents must caucus with one or the other. When Bernie votes, he either votes with the Democrats or he votes against them, but he’s still playing on their board.
The only way we’re gonna take this country away from the Republican nutters is to vote Democratic. And it has to be done because the Republicans have spent decades rigging the game.
Take a close look at the recent Special Election in PA. The map was so badly Gerrymandered, that even the Gorsuck Supreme Court had to force them to redistrict. The thing looked like a Pothead’s eyeball. Tiny little blue pupil, surrounded by a sea of red. But what happened? We took that seat. Why? Because a literal horde of Democrats turned out and voted. And because a much smaller group of Independents voted Democrat.
Now, the guy we got probably isn’t Gandhi. He isn’t another Mandela. Another Tutu. But he also isn’t a Kool-aid drinking gun fetishist who believes that abortion will ruin God’s plan of birthing the Antichrist. The “Obama’s just as bad as Trump” argument is what got us here.
We’ll never be able to convince the Paul Ryans, the Mitch McConnells, the Roy Blunts, or the John Cornyns of anything. Much less their supporters. Those people are gone. They’re zombies. Pod-people. “She’s not the girl you knew. Now she just wants to eat your brain.”
But, the simple fact is, you either side with Democrats, and have infinitesimal power, or you side with somebody else and cede everything to the Republicans.
There is no third choice.
