Boston Globe Leads Charge Against Trump

A Boston newspaper is proposing a coordinated editorial response from publications across the US to President Trump’s frequent attacks on the news media.

“We are not the enemy of the people,” says Marjorie Pritchard, deputy managing editor for the editorial page of the Boston Globe, referring to a characterization of journalists that Trump has used in the past. The president, who contends he has largely been covered unfairly by the press, also employs the term “fake news” often when describing the media.

The Globe has reached out to editorial boards nationwide to write and publish editorials on Aug. 16 denouncing what the newspaper called a “dirty war against the free press,” per the AP. As of Friday, Pritchard says, about 70 outlets had committed to editorials so far, with the list expected to grow.

The publications range from large metropolitan dailies, such as the Houston ChronicleMinneapolis Star TribuneMiami Herald, and Denver Post, to small weekly papers with circulations as low as 4,000.

The newspaper’s request suggests editorial boards take a common stand against Trump’s words regardless of their politics. “Our words will differ. But at least we can agree that such attacks are alarming,” the appeal notes. Pritchard says the decision to seek the coordinated response from newspapers was reached after Trump appeared to step up his rhetoric in recent weeks.

She says she hopes the editorials will make an impression on Americans and “educate readers to realize that an attack on the First Amendment is unacceptable. We are a free and independent press, it is one of the most sacred principles enshrined in the Constitution.”

I am thoroughly convinced that those who are truly in Trump’s camp, for whatever reason, will remain there regardless of what anyone does or says. Trump and his followers have managed to accomplish one of his goals which was to create a faction of people who believe that anything he says is truth. He actually started this several years before running for president when he convinced the City of New York to help him rebuild the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. Trump is a manipulator and con man of the first order and has been that way since he daddy put him in business. He learned from some of the best liars and con men in New York and has been perfecting the art since then. Donald Trump has now become the most dangerous man in American history. His statement that he “understands” politicians could not be more true. He has a majority of the House Republicans walking in fear of him even though, initially, they had nothing to fear. The House Republicans gave him power, or rather the illusion that he was powerful that became a truth. Now only the voters can save the American democracy. The voters can take away that illusion by taking away the House at least, and definitely show people what he really is by taking both the Senate and the House in 2018. But that last part will never happen. The American people have no patriotism left for the country, only a focus on their on wallets. Trump has made us become the ugly America that the world thought we were all along.

Where were they when he was getting his balls licked during the campaign by the press, both print and television? If they sat by and said nothing, then they can go fuck themselves with this horseshit. Now it’s hit them personally they want to claim victimhood, when they stood by and did nothing before.

I hope an impression will be made as well, but I’m not confident that Trumpers read newspapers and the “fake news” defense is always at their fingertips. How many people ever admit they’ve been fooled? research tells us it’s very few.

But such a warning coming out of Boston seems fitting. Can you imagine Paul Revere galloping down the street calling out “The British aren’t coming, it’s fake news?” or maybe “The British are coming but it’s a good thing”
