Evangelicals and the Virtue of Sluttiness

I’m not very religious. In fact, I avoid church like a Republican billionaire avoids the IRS. In fact, the last few times I stepped into a church, I’m amazed that I didn’t burst into flames. Now it’s not like I don’t believe in God, I simply believe that he has bigger concerns than dealing with all our petty bullshit. Religion is an invention of man, used to control the masses and manipulate thought.
For everyone who thinks that the Bible is the literal ‘word’ of God, I’d like to point out that the book has passed through so many hands and gone through so many versions, that it’s pretty much impossible to determine what the original message behind it was. But this article isn’t going to be a rant against religion.
Last week, a friend forwarded me an article about why so many Evangelical women supported Brett Kavanaugh, new appointee to the Supreme Court and alleged sexual predator. In it, the author explained that it has to do with Evangelical purity culture and how women are browbeaten into submerging their sexuality and making them feel responsible for any sexual assaults that happen to them.
To say it enraged me is putting it lightly. I loathe religion in general, but I loathe Evangelicals in particular. They’re hypocritical, pious, and judgmental. They’re everything antithetical to what a christian should be.
Young female Evangelicals are taught to dress ‘modestly’, made to feel ashamed for their sexuality, and are blamed for any sexual assaults done to them, as if Evangelical men bear no responsibility whatsoever. If an assault occurs, it’s usually because men were ‘tempted’ or that a woman doesn’t submit to her husband.
Well, you know what I have to say to that? “Screw you and your purity bullshit, you bible-thumping assholes!”
You’re so big on purity, then why don’t you hold men to the same standard you do the women? Why are women responsible for a man’s lust? What makes them the great tempter of Satan? Just because they look or dress a certain way, you’re gonna tell me that it’s okay for them to be raped just because some mouthbreather couldn’t keep his dick in his pants?
I know in the bible women are the great tempters, but we’re not living in biblical times now, no matter what screwed up filter you look at life through. Things like rape, incest, and slavery are WRONG
The last time I looked, we live in the 21st century, and most of us have chosen to evolve and have grown more enlightened. Women aren’t the weaker sex you presume them to be.
I don’t believe in slut-shaming women. They have every right to be as sexually aggressive as men are. I may not totally agree with it sometimes, but I don’t judge. Well… unless I’m watching a paternity segment on The Maury Show where a woman tests twenty guys, trying to find her baby daddy.
I mean, when the test comes back negative for the twentieth time and the girl runs offstage screaming, “I’m not a ho!”, I’m kinda thinking, “No offense, but you kinda sorta are.” Not that I would say it out loud. But hey, I’m not saying she can’t sleep with twenty guys, though she might want to invest in a condom.
Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but I’ve always believed that women are the better part of humanity; that men would devolve into barbarism and hate without women to balance us out. I’ve probably gotten more cynical as I’ve grown older, and I’m not looking at women through a rose-colored filter anymore, but I like to think I’ve at least learned to treat women as equals.
But if I can shift back to my romantic self for a moment, I’ll share an old quote that reminds me of the greatness of women- “The greatest function of women is to inspire love.”

I’m a slut and proud of it but you’ll never find me banging a Bible.
While some schools of Buddhism have more religious overtones, Zen is appealing to me for its simplicity and lack of deity although the Shakyamuni Buddha is venerated by all Buddhists.
I find religion for the most part so twisted that sexual abuse and deviant behavior is a given. I am Zen Buddhist. I am not religious but I am on a spiritual journey and after all I have seen, I prefer to walk my path alone.
Well said Rockync. I’m an atheist myself, although I started to explore Buddhism, and find it fascinating, and peaceful, unlike Christianity.

The purity movement is so much bullshit brainwashing and it angers me no end to know that women are treated this way.

Anyway, the part where I wrote about women being the better part of us is my own personal opinion, not a judgment call. I know perfectly well that no woman can be totally above reproach. I’m not that naive. Sheesh.
Folks, need I remind you that forced sexual aggression is rarely about sex. It is about power and dominance and their weapon is weapon is sex. Sexual assault is a power trip and has been used for thousands of years to demean others and assert dominance over the others. In less civilized cultures the armies raped the women of their enemies not for sexual satisfaction but to declare complete domination by claiming and defiling their females.
I agree with Mike and Jess on this subject Greg, although I enjoyed your article, and you make some good points. My neighbors on both sides both love Kavanaugh Jess and make it clear his accusers were lying, and one of them even claims Dr. Ford was sent by the devil. I’ve some fucked up neighbors.
Going to disagree with you here. Women are most definitely not the better part of humanity when there are many women that support and condone the behavior of men like Kavanaugh. The sex part, oh yeah we can be just as sexual as men and there is zero shame in that as far as I am concerned.
When it comes to sex I’m not sure women are much different than men. We all have desires, and, individually speaking, some are more forceful and demanding than others. For example, in my experience…wait! Never mind, my experiences may not be appropriate for all forums 🙂
Your tale also show the true sluttiness of men Gregory. 20 guys boinked this woman with no protection. It does show the male sexes slavery to orgasm achieved with a real female regardless of judgement. Evangelicals have successfully blamed this behavior on the Devil and women. These assholes can talk people into anything. And Jimmy Swaggert abd Jim Baker are forgiven yet they can’t forgive President Obama for being black and trying to get more people health insurance.
