(Watch) Puppy Thief Caught On Surveillance Video

Read Time:1 Minute, 10 Second

A puppy is back with its owner after being stolen from its yard in broad daylight. In a dognapping that was caught on surveillance video, Matt Ivy shared the footage in a desperate attempt to get 10-week-old Chipper back.

In it, two men can be seen pulling up to the gated yard in Mesquite, Texas, before one jumps out, grabs Chipper from over a fence, and carries him off as he yelps, while two adult dogs in the yard bark at the men.

Ivy, a Dallas firefighter who’s also a dog breeder, also created a GoFundMe campaign to raise reward money for the Dogue de Bordeaux or French Mastiff puppy, which is valued at $3,000. On Wednesday, Ivy and Chipper have reunited “thanks to the help of media and local citizens,” per FOX 4.

“Somebody sold Chipper to a good man that called me and returned him,” Ivy explained on his Facebook page. “Sorry it’s so short, police have asked me to keep details minimal.”

Ivy says he started breeding French mastiffs after seeing the movie Turner and Hooch. “They told me that’s just a mutt. You’ll never find one,” he tells FOX 4. “Flipped through a dog book 15 years ago and found them. Did my research and got them. Been in love with them ever since.”

Police are still looking for the suspects, the Dallas News reports.

Seems the thief was just after the money. Some stolen dogs suffer horrible fates. Under Texas law it’s easier to shoot trespassers then elsewhere, I believe. Not that I’d suggest shooting the bastard. Not that I wouldn’t either.

My problem would be finding all the pieces to bury after Rascal Got through with them. I suspect Barney is much the same. That’s the problem with mutts like Rascal. They have a tough time finding a home but once they do you best not try to take it away from them or them away from it.

Probably no one would have wanted to steal Rascal years ago but if they had they would not have tried twice. I don’t think I have ever saw a dog get so protective over a patch of ground than he did. My biggest worry was getting sued by someone who wandered into our little patch of dirt before I could teach him better. Even though our mail person did not have to come on the property they wrote “dog” on our mailbox. We finally convinced him that a few feet on the property was OK. I put up several signs across the front yard that said, “On this side you are safe” “On the side of this sign you are not!”
He is old now and has trouble getting around. At least twice a day he hobbles out to his spot on the drive way and in his most ferocious voice claims his dirt. But now it pretty much all bark and no bite. That’s OK though. He pretty well has the neighborhood and the surrounding area trained.

My Barney is about the same way, although his bite is still as dangerous as his bark I suspect.
