In Trump World ‘Almost More’ Doesn’t Mean A Damn Thing

Read Time:1 Minute, 28 Second

A nice Trumpian turn of phrase. If I’m almost as good looking as almost any other guy, that means very little, the word almost being so flexible.

One of Trump’s last tweets before jetting off to a country he colluded to avoid visiting in his youth was to attack Spike Lee for his “racist hit” on the Great Commander Trump. So ungrateful since he’s done more for African Americans than “almost” any other president.

The word almost of course is there to pretend that such a ludicrous liar really cares about inconvenient contradictions like Abraham Lincoln or the fact that the economic growth he inherited has had nothing to do with him. But let’s look at history— just a little Roosevelt: Executive Order 8802 stated that there shall be “no discrimination in the employment of workers in defense industries or Government because of race, creed, color, or national origin.” The Order also created the Fair Employment Practices Commission (FEPC) to investigate discrimination complaints in wartime. It was a step, but it didn’t survive the end of the war..

Truman integrated the military and tried to bring back the FEPC along with national laws against lynching, and measures to ensure voting rights and equal access to education. Congress rejected it.

Eisenhower signed the Civil Rights Bill in 1957 and sent troops to enforce it in Arkansas

Kennedy banned, among other things discrimination in public places, Johnson was, in later years a champion of civil rights. Of course this is about presidents not the countless freedom fighters and protesters and voters; far too many to discuss.

And Trump? His tax cut for billionaires was almost the best thing, says he – and it’s true if almost more means not a damned thing.

I’ll bet there’s a psychiatrist out there drooling at the challenge Trump would present.

Puts me in mind of Tony Soprano. Head of criminal family who suffered from panic attacks. He entered into therapy and after a while his psychiatrist also entered into therapy because she found his admissions of murder, threats, extra marital affairs and crime in general, hard for her to comprehend. Then the psychiatrist’s psychiatrist became obsessed with her patient. Phew. Unbelievable, almost.
