Will Boris Be A Turkish Delight?

Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson was born in the USA on June 19, 1964. His ancestry includes Turkish Muslims. He is now the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He is considered to be, potentially, the savior of the nation by some, and a dangerous clown by others.

Educated at Eton, he was considered quite brilliant by many of his teachers. As a child, when asked his ambition in life, he often responded “To be king of the world”.

Well, he might not have achieved that ambition, but arriving at the position of Prime Minister of the UK – particularly after seeing his career stall rather badly after being sacked as Foreign Secretary – is, in its own right, quite an achievement.

Boris has long portrayed himself as something of a bumbling clown. His portrayal being so successful, some believe he is exactly that.

Well, if he is, it is quite remarkable that a bumbling clown can rise to the highest office in the land.

It is far more likely that, as an experienced career politician, he knew, and knows, precisely how to appeal to his voter base.

Given that the UK is currently increasingly divided into a politically left and right leaning populace – primarily, although not exclusively, due to Brexit – Boris is very much ‘the darling of the right’.

So much so that Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party may well find that the enormous groundswell of support they initially found on their formation, is severely curtailed with Boris at the Conservative helm.

In case you missed it: The London Mayor Who Cried Wolf

In fact, from the perspective of both Boris and Farage supporters, it appears that a, possibly, wise move would be for them to, at the very least, come to an understanding.

Parliamentary seats that are winnable by both should not be contested by both. To do so would undoubtedly split the vote and allow the Liberal Democrats or Labour in.

If Boris and Farage can come to an ‘accommodation’, it is not inconceivable that Britain will have the most right wing government in its history for some time to come.

At present, however, Boris only has a majority government by virtue of Northern Irelands Democratic Unionists supporting them.

It is imperative that Boris leads us out of the European Union, regardless of a deal, by October 31st.

It is equally clear that our Parliament contains more ‘remainers’ than ‘leavers’ so, how can he achieve this?

Proroguing Parliament – in other words, closing Parliament down – to force through our exit is, as far as I can see, the only realistic option.

Still, with Boris, never discount anything. He may have some other method of achieving his goal. Time will tell.

The likelihood of a General Election is very strong. I doubt, ideally, Boris would want one before getting us out of the EU, but, almost immediately afterwards I suspect it will happen.

There are those who strongly believe that Boris is potentially the savior of the nation. There are those who strongly believe that he is a dangerous clown.

There are those, of which I am one, who strongly hope he can be the savior of our nation but, in the very back of our minds, can’t quite bring ourselves to believe as blindly as many.

My crystal ball isn’t working.

I’ve never liked Turkish Delight myself, but if the man with the Turkish ancestry achieves what I sincerely hope he achieves, I’ll force myself to eat a piece anyway. Just out of sheer delight.

Why do you think he’s another Trump? Just saying so doesn’t make it so.

He did what a lot of people have done in the past managed to fuck up his way to the top. You need look no further than the moron we have in office here. Like I said the other day he is dolt45 with a dictionary and we are fucked as a world if this is the low bar we are okay with now.

At the moment Boris has talked the talk – at least the talk many want to hear. Whether he walks the walk remains to be seen.

He isn’t another Trump Jess. For a start he’s intelligent. He’s also appointed a British Asian woman and a British Asian Muslim man to two of the highest offices we have. Hardly Trump like behavior?

Trump is an idiot. A clownish idiot if you will and he is now president. It has little to do with skill, morality, professionalism, and etc., and everything to do with the idiots who vote for them. As I understand British politics, however, the PM is not really elected by the people, but rather by the party. Am I correct old bean?

Normally the PM is elected via his or her party receiving the most votes in a General Election. However, if a PM stands down a la Cameron, then another takes over a la May.

May stood down so Boris gets it. Only Conservative Party members can vote who gets it if the PM at the time they won the GE stands down.

Some are not happy with this system – and it isn’t particularly democratic if you ask me – but it is what we have at the moment so Boris get the PM’s job.

The next GE will almost certainly follow shortly – I would anticipate after we have left the EU.
