The Interminable Hypocrisy Of Politics

Read Time:3 Minute, 44 Second

by Neil Bamforth

You really, really couldn’t make it up could you? Well, I couldn’t anyway. I suspect that the same sort of thing is happening over there in the USA. I read Facebook posts from people connected to MMA so I know the same sort of bullshit is happening over there. WTF? – or, if we are going to be open and honest here – What the fuck is going on?

There was a local election the other day in Wales. It was, what is termed in Britain, a by-election.

Frankly I have absolutely no idea, nor interest come to that, as to why such a thing occurred but it did. It occurred in the vaguely unpronounceable place of Powys in Wales.

Actually it was called the ‘Brecon and Radnorshire by-election’ which, clearly, means even less if you don’t happen to live there.

Now – and please bear with me here as, not surprisingly perhaps, the various political parties involved will mean relatively little in the USA – but, the point I am making is relevant to pretty much every western liberal democracy.

In The UK, The Conservative Party, (now Boris Johnson is at the helm), are in favor of Brexit as are, not surprisingly, the Brexit Party of Nigel Farage.

The Liberal Democrats and, after flip flopping all over the place, the Labour Party, are in favor of stopping Brexit.

Other ‘remain’ parties stood aside for the above by-election in the hope that the Liberal Democrats would win and they did.

Just.

The Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn are dangerously close to being consigned to history so are not, at this time, particularly relevant.

However, The Brexit Party didn’t stand aside so, as a result, took votes from The Conservatives thereby splitting the leave vote.

The Liberal Democrats are cock-a-hoop that they won and are insisting it is a victory for ‘remain’.

The problem is, The Brexit Party wiped the floor against the remain parties in The EU elections. The ‘remain’ side claimed a ‘moral victory’ as the total votes for ‘remain’ parties exceeded the votes for The Brexit Party. Yet now, even though the total votes at this by-election for ‘leave’ parties – ie, the Torys and The Brexit Party combined – exceeded the voted for the Liberal Democrats, (remain), the LibDems are ignoring this fact.

It’s a bit like Trump getting fewer popular votes than Clinton yet, through the American electoral college, still winning.

It’s frustrating isn’t it?

The LibDems claimed a ‘moral victory’ in the EU elections by combining votes for ‘remain’, yet they are ignoring the same statistics in this local by-election.

What is it with politicians that they use statistics one way when it suits them, and then ignore the same statistical logic when it doesn’t?

It drives me absolutely nuts.

How the hell can we ever even vaguely trust any politicians when they so blatantly twist the facts to suit themselves.

Ok Liberal Democrats. In the EU elections the combined votes FOR remaining in the EU exceeded the votes for The Brexit Party.

Fine. Then acknowledge the same in this by-election! It is exactly the same scenario!!

I strongly suspect it is just as well we don’t have the same gun laws as the USA. If we had, I strongly suspect that half our politicians, at least, would have been shot by now out of sheer exasperation.

It matters not whether you are ‘leave’ or ‘remain’ regarding The EU.

If you lose heavily in the EU elections to The Brexit Party – as ‘remain’ did – but then point out that the combined vote of the remain parties is higher than the votes for The Brexit Party fine. You then have to keep that reasoning going forward.

Doing so would then show that ‘leave’ actually received more votes in this Welsh by-election.

So, Liberal Democrats, stop crowing. You are hypocritical in the extreme.

And remember. All it takes is for Boris and Nigel to team up, share an understanding, and not have their parties compete against each other and, frankly, ‘remain’ are toast.

We’re leaving the EU on October 31st, 2019.

You will not stop us. Not by moving statistics around to suit your opinion. Not by bullshitting anyone into believing you can stop us. Not by outright lies that you won when, under your own criteria, you morally lost.

We are leaving the EU on October 31st.

End of.

Besides, I’ve bet Mike $20 that we do 🙂

Shirley 62…. Are the other 61 reading me? 😂😂😂

Look love. Brexit is a constant in Blighty. If the silly morons in Parliament had just taken us out after 2016, then it wouldn’t be.

I’ll go back to slating Islam then… Happy now? 😘

What? Are you ever going to write about something other than Brexit? I imagine the three people who read your articles feel the same.

In Neil’s defense, up to a couple of weeks ago his posts were being read by several thousand folks a day, all from the UK. That being said, however, those numbers have dropped over the last few days, to a week.
