Donald Trump and the Taliban Paradox
I know I’ve said that Donald Trump was an idiot before, but I think this week takes the proverbial cake.
Not only did he claim that the category 5 hurricane Dorian was going to hit Alabama, (it wasn’t,) he actually went so far as to tweet a picture of the storm’s projected path to include Alabama. But instead of being clever enough to alter it digitally (like anyone with an IQ in the triple digits would’ve done,) he used a sharpie marker to circle the area on the map.
When a reporter pointed this out and asked Trump who drew the lines, all he could say was, “I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know.”
If I were that reporter, I would’ve had a follow up question- “You’re the President, isn’t it your job to know?” Seeing his face turn beet red with rage as he stammered for a crushing comeback would’ve made getting my press credentials revoked and getting thrown out by the secret service totally worth it.
But seriously, is it really the hardest thing in the world to admit to making a mistake? To say, “Oops, my bad!” Apparently, for Trump, it is. It seemed like the more he tried to prove that he was right, the more foolish he looked, and he doesn’t have to work that hard to look foolish. You know what they say, ‘if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.’ If that’s the case, then Trump loves to look like an utter idiot. Because God knows he works so hard at it. Maybe we’ve been too hard on him for all the golf trips. You think?
Yesterday, he posted this little gem on Twitter:
“Unbeknownst to almost everyone, the major Taliban leaders and, separately, the President of Afghanistan, were going to secretly meet with me at Camp David on Sunday. They were coming to the United States tonight. Unfortunately, in order to build false leverage, they admitted to… an attack in Kabul that killed one of our great great soldiers, and 11 other people. I immediately cancelled the meeting and called off peace negotiations. What kind of people would kill so many in order to seemingly strengthen their bargaining position? They didn’t, they …only made it worse! If they cannot agree to a ceasefire during these very important peace talks, and would even kill 12 innocent people, then they probably don’t have the power to negotiate a meaningful agreement anyway. How many more decades are they willing to fight?”
Couple of thoughts on this- if this was a secret meeting, why on God’s green Earth would you tweet about it, even if you cancelled it? Having a meeting with the Afghani president is one thing, but members of the Taliban? At Camp David, no less? The last time I checked, The Taliban was a terrorist organization, and as far as I know, the U.S. doesn’t negotiate with terrorists. It’s pretty much Presidential protocol 101. Unless you’re Donald J. Trump, I guess. The guy has been a failure at everything he’s done or tried to do, should this really come as a surprise to anyone? Trump loves guys like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un. If that meeting was real, which is doubtful, Trump probably would’ve said they were a “great bunch of guys!”
Second, what is Trump even negotiating about, anyway? An end to the war in Afghanistan? Yeah, right. Trump’s skills as a diplomat rank somewhere between a Klingon female on her period and Lindsey Graham at an ass-kissing contest. If Trump was half the great negotiator he thinks he is, the doomsday clock wouldn’t be at two minutes to midnight.
And, “Unbeknownst to everyone…?” Is that including the Afghani President and the Taliban? Because I will bet you fifty bucks that they will issue statements saying that they never planned to meet with Trump at all. I get the feeling that the voices in Trump’s head are becoming full-on delusions. Not that that’s a stretch of the imagination. I dunno about you, but I certainly hope to God that somebody with a brain at the pentagon gave Trump fake nuclear codes. I wouldn’t trust that orange-toned misanthrope with my netflix password.
Besides, having the Taliban visit the U.S. the same week as the anniversary of 9/11 is like inviting Richard Spencer and the Proud Boys to a Holocaust memorial. Normally, I would ask Trump how he could be that insensitive, but then again, he’s about as sensitive as a fossilized booger, unless it’s about him.
If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would think that Trump called in the Afghani president and the Taliban to stage a terrorist ‘attack’ to help raise his approval rating going into the 2020 election. He knows the only way he can win and unite the country is if we had another terrorist attack. Even foiling a fake terrorist plot would earn him some points.
Does that sound like a stretch? Because sadly, I don’t think it is. Trump is getting crazier and more desperate to retain his power every day. I’m not looking forward to the 2020 election. It’s going to get ugly, no matter who wins. And if you’re not scared, you should be.
[…] 5’s, sharpies, Taliban meetings, tweets and concludes that all this represents more than just a bad week for my President. […]
Did you need to butter up your head before you shoved it up your ass, or did you just ram it in dry? Trump is a fucking moron who needs google maps to find his own dick so he can take a piss!
President Trump knows what hes doing. He is confident in his skills and he is not afraid to tackle any task. His economy is booming. He has been very successful thusfar dealing with Europe, China and North Korea. Why not tackle the middle East. If anyone can do it, he can. More power to him.
This is a joke, right? He has not completed one “deal” yet. Your sentence, “If anybody can do it, he can” leaves a lot to be parsed. He has not done one thing yet except by EO. Worst negotiator in the world. North Korea, Iran, Syria. This “president” cannot complete a coherent sentence let alone stand on the world stage and be a figure of respect. He will always be a stain on the history of this country.
Greg, I agree, wholeheartedly. They most likely will have drag him, kicking and screaming, out of the White House. He will, if he loses, immediately invoke the fake claims of voter fraud and conspiracies by the Clinton’s, the fake news, and the “Deep State”. This could be another Court battle because he will immediately sue. Better he has a heart attack while stuffing his face with KFC and die. I normally would never wish for anyone to die, but for Donald Trump, I will make and exception. He has done so many cruel and inhuman things to people the devil will throw him back to life.
I’ve been scared of the tRump for 33 months!
Me too. Greg is right! This guy is getting crazier and crazier and that should frighten everyone.
