Jerry Falwell Junior: It Is Time To Tell The Truth

Read Time:7 Minute, 18 Second

by Dr. Mark Bear

Hey Junior,

Forgive me for not attributing the respect you think you deserve, but as a pastor who serves the same Christ you supposedly observe, I have noticed a huge disconnect in what you say and how you behave.  Simply speaking: You don’t practice what you preach.

Let me explain: When you told Charisma magazine that your business endeavors “superceded Christ’s teachings,” I just thought you were just downright spiritually dead.

I mean, let’s face it, you do run one of the largest “Christian” Universities in the nation, while also receiving assistance from the federal government. And while I am on that topic, let’s address what Politico unearthed regarding current people working within your administration on backstory telling those investigative journalists how “you are NOTHING like your Daddy.” And let’s face it: He was bad enough claiming he was part of the “moral majority” imposing burdens on people who do not even believe as we do.

Now, I realize you received the majority of Daddy’s inheritance, but you do know what the Good Book you demand others live by says about this sort of thing, right? What’s that? You don’t?

That doesn’t surprise me in the least, especially given the information contained in the Politico article, how your business is thriving; and how you went into business with your son Trey to open a “gay friendly hostel.” To be clear, it is refreshing that you now embrace the gay community, or how there are compromising pictures of your wife circulating on the internet with the “pool boy” you met in South Beach, and how you deprive educators within your own institution the right to speak freely. Oh, and then there are the pictures of you, your wife, and Trey standing in the middle of a nightclub called The Wall which you just swear were photo shopped. Thankfully, the allegation landed upon one of the most reputable photographers who simply published more photos due to your bullying. Back to that inheritance:

It says in Luke 12:48: “When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.” And you know what Junior? I honestly do not believe Christ was speaking about material wealth of a business nature, either.

By the way, just how did you handle that information which leaked from your own university? Well, you acted just like your friend Donald J. Trump, didn’t you? Sure you did.  First, you argued that the pictures of you, your wife, and Trey were photo-shopped, then you cried out to Charisma how you felt that anyone who does not like Trump is “tagging anyone who supported him,” promoting a vast conspiracy theory just like your buddy who occupies our Oval Office due to the Russians assisting him.

Do tell us: Are you receiving Russian financial backing too?

Because here is the deal, Junior: Most of us could not care less that you sold your soul for Trump’s empty promises which have not come to pass other than you getting a justice on the bench, but what does bother us, and apparently those students who turned in their degrees  out of protest back to your school after working hard to earn them – which you called grandstanding – is you are showing the world that what you and Daddy have been preaching from your own pulpit is a bunch of hogwash.

In other words, your behavior is nothing short of hypocritical, and let’s face it Junior, nothing – and I mean this literally – nothing will keep people who cannot see the God we claim exists away from the global Church more, than hypocrisy. Again, the very Book conservative evangelicals – you and other conservative evangelicals – have demanded others live by, speaks on this subject, doesn’t it? You don’t need to answer, because the reality is I have the grave suspicion that you have not been meditating on that Book as much as you have Trump’s playbook to keep him in power. So let me share with you what it says in Matthew 23:23, fair enough? It states:

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices–mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law–justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.”

I’m sure – if you are reading this – you know precisely the reason I chose this specific text for you. Because when you interviewed with the Washington Post at the beginning of this year, you actually argued when asked by Joe Heim from the outlet “Weren’t Christians supposed to be the nice guys,” you responded as follows:

“I almost laugh out loud when I hear Democrats saying things like, “Jesus said suffer the little children to come unto me” and try to use that as the reason we should open up our borders.”

So much for practicing the “important matters of the law–justice, mercy and faithfulness, huh? While we are on this topic, Junior: I also notice you told the reporter from the Post that you were not concerned about earthly issues; just heavenly ones. Really? Then why do you claim to preach the truth? And why do you distort the teachings of the Christ you claim you worship? You specifically told that reporter from the Post the following:

“[Jesus] went out of his way to say that’s the earthly kingdom, I’m about the heavenly kingdom and I’m here to teach you how to treat others, how to help others, but when it comes to serving your country, you render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s.”

But this idea you have in no way squares with the Bible, Junior, now does it? Lest you need a reminder, this is what Christ said about how we ought to treat this earth:

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Also, what in the world are you doing chiming in on our border issues? Aren’t you supposed to be tending to your flock, versus trying to be a religious ruler of the day? Oh, wait! I remember. You were supposed to be endorsing Ted Cruz – equally evil – over Trump until you had reached out first to Michael Cohen to get those seedy pictures of your wife – who is nearly undressed – according to some accounts to disappear. And I guess he did that, but you know what they say Junior, evidence always comes to surface; the truth shall always come out. You ought to try it sometime, since our good Book states:

“If you continue in my Word, you are truly My disciples. then, you will know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:31-32 Emphasis mine).

According to truth, Trump needed to win Iowa, and Michael Cohen asked a return favor of you, didn’t he? Would you endorse Trump? And you did not stutter or say no in the least, did you? Nope! So now Junior, guess what? You and “The Don” are joined at the hip and Liberty University will always be remembered as the pivotal game changer for the Trump campaign and all of the corruption and evil he has brought upon the land. But hey, to you, it’s all about business sense. Thanks! That really helped the evangelical movement, eh? Not!

Perhaps it is time to reboot your theological roots, Junior, if you have it in you, versus going to Trump and “demanding the FBI” investigate who said what in that Politico article, and while you are at it, remember this gem for it would be a good start for you from Matthew 6:19: and 6:21:

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.”

If you can’t do this much, then for the love of dog, it is about time – well past time – for Liberty University to lose its tax-exempt status.

And while you are at it, Junior, if you and your family are going to be seen partying at a club, don’t you think you should loosen the restrictions on dancing, drinking, and others which you place upon the students who attend your school? By the way, what is Trey’s girlfriend drinking? It looks awfully delicious and alcoholic. THAT is the hypocrisy I speak of in this article.

I will be deeply honored to have you connect with me as friends on Facebook, or follow me on Twitter.

I’m not so sure that “Junior” HAS any actual FAITH or “theological roots”. I’ve certainly never seen any of either in *anyone* who associates with trumpty dumpty.

Love it! Thanks Doc!

It sure is, and I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that way. I think there are millions of us, but I wish more of us were vocal. Religion is the opiate of the masses, and billions suck on that pipe.

Religion is a very, very serious mental illness…

I hadn’t read about those incriminating photos, Mark. Very interesting and fully supportive of what I’ve long maintained: the hypocrisy in religion is shocking indeed.

Anyone who has been watching “The Righteous Gemstones” has to smile at the similarity to these real life Roman Emperors. The orgies, the vast piles of cash and the willingness to destroy the modest, the honest and sincere.
