A Word About Katie Hill and Revenge Porn

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking- “Where the Hell have you been, Gonzalez?” Truth be told, I needed a break from the political madness. Writing about Trump all of the time just sucks the life out of me. Now I know how Melania feels on a daily basis. Republican stupidity was bad enough when Obama was in office, but now it’s in overdrive and heading down a steep slope, taking a header into Hell. Which would be fine if only it wasn’t dragging us down with them.
Thankfully, this article isn’t about Trump- It’s about former freshman congressperson, Katie Hill. For those of you who haven’t heard, she’s the representative from California who recently resigned her seat because a conservative ‘news’ outlet published nude photos of her and accused her of having a polyamorous relationship while she was married. Hill was also accused of having an inappropriate affair with a congressional staffer. While she has denied a relationship with a member of her staff, she admitted to an affair with a member of her campaign staff. Hill was married at the time, but going through a divorce. Hill’s former husband is suspected as being the one who provided the nude photos to the media in a ‘revenge porn’ plot against her.
This pisses me off for a couple of reasons, the primary one being that at a time when we need all Democrat hands on deck, the Dems in the House pulled another of their ‘purity purges’ and turned their backs on Hill as they did former Senator Al Franken. I mean, come on- really? Does everyone on the left have to be as pure as the driven snow? I thought purity tests were the exclusive playground of the Republican party. But then, I guess as long as you invoke the name of Jesus and proclaim that you’re begging for God’s forgiveness, you’re good to go. Maybe Hill should join a convent after this is over.
Katie Hill is from California, for crying out loud. I would be shocked if she wasn’t a naked bisexual with a bong! In the greater scheme of things, this really isn’t the scandal everyone makes it out to be. We have Trump as President, remember? The bar for inappropriate behavior is pretty low, so unless Katie added sodomizing midgets and raping underage altar boys to her growing list of sins, I don’t consider this a big deal. The Democrats need to start getting their priorities in order. They can’t continue to eat their own just because of imagined slights and rumored perversions unless they’re Anthony Weiner. Let’s be honest, if the vices and personal details of every member of Congress came to light, we probably wouldn’t have a functioning government anymore.
I’m not surprised that a scumbag conservative blog was responsible for releasing the photos. Conservatives have the ethical compass of a child molester working in a church daycare. Conservatives don’t give a shit who they hurt as long as it serves their purposes. I know the Daily Mail released the photos as well, but they thrive on sleazy, tabloid-type reporting. That’s what they’re known for. Both outlets could have broke the stories without posting the photos, but they did it anyway. Despite that, they don’t even compare to Katie Hill’s husband, the alleged shitheel responsible for releasing the intimate pictures in the first place.
Listen, I know what an angry divorce feels like. I know how it twists you, makes you wish you could make your former partner suffer more pain than they have caused you, but the truth is, the best thing you can do is move on and rebuild your life from the bottom up. Grinding on it and looking for some kind of payback is pointless and accomplishes nothing but more acrimony.
The thing that makes revenge porn so vile is that the person who commits it is betraying the trust of the person who loved them enough to capture them so intimately. Granted, that’s not always the case, but in this one, I think it is. Even if you don’t love that person anymore, it isn’t right to share their intimate sides with others to get even or for a cheap thrill.
I dated this one girl who enjoyed sending me pictures of herself, and after we broke up, I did the decent thing and deleted them. In the years since, she’s never asked me about it, and it’s never been an issue. Do I regret it? Not really, if I wanted to revisit the highlight reel, I still have my memory. But having said that, ladies, if I might suggest- don’t take nude selfies. It may come back to haunt you someday.
Getting back to Katie Hill, I think she’s done a disservice to herself by resigning her seat, and I know I’m not the only one who thinks so. This storm will pass, and for all the asshole republicans who are sending death threats and harassing her, they’re just a vocal minority with no balls and too much time on their hands. No matter what Hill has done, it doesn’t compare with the blood on the hands of Trump and the GOP. Not even close.

Redstate is a fucking cesspool that should not exist and that they posted this. if she were not a public official she should sue them into oblivion like Peter Thiel did Gawker for posting these intimate photos. Duncan fucking Hunter from CA is going through courts right now for the EXACT same thing with 3 or 4 women and he is still in office, is Nancy Pelosi asking for his resignation as a house member oh wait I see what the difference is here, wtf am I thinking. Someone can take me outside and slap some sense into me.
I don’t get it!!!! Why are all these people resigning because they either got laid, or thought about getting laid, or brushed the ass, accidentally most likely, of a so-called faithful follower or co-worker? It’s just sex!!! That’s all it is! SEX! It ain’t a sin except for those who ain’t getting it. And Glenn is right in saying AL Franken would have been a good president. I’ll tell ya I don’t quit if you want me out you need to bring your pitchforks and fire torches because I ain’t leaving the castle.
Conservatives – those kind folks who talk about Jesus and have been telling us that pornography is our greatest problem for a long time have no hesitation when offering nude photos when they can profit from it and when they can raise religious indignation for their own purposes. How many zealous Republicans would be serving long sentences if their exploits had been photographed. And of course lewd, lascivious and often felonious sexual behavior are the lifelong pursuit of the Grabber himself. That’s different though, isn’t it?
Yes, Democratic puritanism will be their undoing. They ( notice I no longer say we) are addicted to self loathing and soaking in original sin scenarios – excoriating themselves for their gender, race and all other inherited sins like some medieval monk with his cat-O-nine tails in hand muttering ‘mea maxima culpa.’ There is no forgiveness even when there is no sin.
