Jesus Trumps Love—Hallmark Yanks Gay Wedding Ads

It’s the Age of Jesus and our nation continues to be co-opted by the bizarre myth of a supernatural being. Million of deluded followers kneel at the feet of idols, including the president of the United States, their very own American messiah.

Under pressure from one such Jesus loving conservative advocacy group, The Hallmark Channel has pulled ads for a wedding-planning website that featured same-sex couples, including two brides kissing. Gasp!

The ‘family-friendly’ network, which is in the midst of its heavily watched holiday programming, removed the ads because the controversy was a distraction, a spokesperson said in an interview on Saturday. It was a ‘distraction.’ Let that sink it for a minute.

A statement provided by Molly Biwer, senior vice president for public affairs and communications at Hallmark emphasized the company’s lack of respect for the gay community:

The debate surrounding these commercials on all sides was distracting from the purpose of our network, which is to provide entertainment value.

The Zola company had submitted six ads and four had same-sex couples. After Hallmark pulled those ads, but not two featuring only opposite-sex couples, Zola pulled all of its remaining ads.

Biwer also confirmed that a conservative group, One Million Moms, part of the fanatic Christian American Family Association, had spoken to Bill Abbott, CEO of Crown Media, Hallmark’s parent company.

Abbott had said in November he was “open” to airing movies about LGBT relationships and families, the Advocate reported earlier this month.  How considerate of him.

So, I’m confused—who actually runs Hallmark?  Clearly it’s not Crown Media, but the American Family Association, because they are, after all, dictating what you can see and what you can’t on the long running television network.

Let’s hope more and more companies pull their advertising in protest of this latest assault on decency.

Zola’s chief marketing officer, Mike Chi, told the New York Times he was surprised by the move:

All kisses, couples and marriages are equal celebrations of love and we will no longer be advertising on Hallmark.

This is where the country is today, with a twisted God being followed most diligently by scores of devoted remoras who feed of the myth and whose hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I think Voltaire was right when he said:

Religion was born when the first scoundrel met the first fool.

At Mad Mike’s America, we aren’t afraid to show a gay wedding ad, so here’s one.

Up yours Hallmark!

If you have ever watched these movies you see the same tired lazily written tired crap anyway. White, straight, Christian leaning couple meet and after five minutes fall in love and two hours later they are hooking up for life. Every last one of them. (I’ve watched with the bf***) and ayup I shouted at the tv because I saw two of my favorite actors in them and acted like they could hear me telling them how they sold out acting in Xmas movies.

Piety in ancient Mesopotamia and the Eastern Mediterranean, say many scholars, had more to do with rituals and observances like sacrifice, Temple building and maintenance, than with “do unto others” and providing for the poor and sick and elderly. I see that as something evolving in Post-Exilic Judaism, but that’s just my opinion. As being itself an outgrowth of Judaism, at least at it’s inception, perhaps it has a claim, but that soon – and soon after having become a Roman religion, that ended. It’s long since become a tyrannical force owing nothing to anything but it’s own powers.

Jefferson famously called it “tyranny over the mind of man” and every day and in every way institutional Christianity and ad hoc groups, gangs and independent terrorists illustrate that point.

Apologists will point out good deeds and good influences and good individuals and of course there are plenty, but on the whole Jefferson was right and the charge is valid, I think, when it applies to any “system” that dictates with initially good intentions.

Been watching Hallmark for years and never knew that. Won’t watch it anymore.

Let’s see, Mike is upset about a morality issue about gays on a far right television channel. Who could have saw that coming. Easier to count those who would not have saw this coming from a mile away. But it is that time of year again.
