‘The Economist’ Explains Why Trump Loses in 2020

Read Time:1 Minute, 42 Second

by Michael John Scott

The election of 2020 might just go down in history as one of the strangest ever, as millions of people, including disenfranchised Republicans, dedicated Bernie supporters, and even the sometimes nutty libertarians, hold their noses and vote, vote, vote…for the Democrat, no matter who or she might be.

G. Elliot Morris, The Economist’s political pundit, notes that the dominant narrative of 2016 was the election swung in Trump’s favor because millions just didn’t like Hillary Clinton, and chose the lesser, in their minds, of two evils.  It’s safe to say much has changed since that dark day in November three years ago.

Hopefully, for sane Americans everywhere it appears that next year, as the election rolls around, people will mark their ballots not for the Republicans but for the Democrat, and never for Donald J. Trump, who has decidedly turned out to be a blight on the nation, and an embarrassment in the eyes of the world.

For example, Economist/YouGov polls over the last month have shown that candidates who don’t approve of Trump or Democratic frontrunner former Vice President Joe Biden would vote for Biden by a 60-point margin, while the numbers for other top contenders like Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are similar.

For voters who seem to think the 2020 election is shaping up to be a “lesser of two evils” showdown, it looks like — as of right now, at least — they’d prefer a new face in the White House.

So, for those who were frightened by the doomsayers such as Michael Moore, who said during a recent interview that Trump is likely to win again, there is hope, and the hope is based not only in the math but in the intrinsic decency of the majority of Americans.
