Imagine for a moment that you have been called for jury duty. Imagine, if you will, that several jurors in the courtroom, those who have made it from the pool to the actual jury, openly speak out how “they refuse to listen to witness testimony,” or, even worse, a juror “threatens” another juror with something which could damage him or her publicly should that juror agree to hear from witnesses in the case.

If you are like any other law-abiding citizen you already KNOW this would NEVER occur in any court across this land, don’t you? And you know what? You would be correct. That is due to jurors being tasked with being impartial from the outset, whilst also ensuring the burden of proof rests with the prosecution. In other words, as we each know: those charged with some crime are innocent until proven guilty.

Despite this analogy and all of the predictions regarding if the Senate will or will not hear witness testimony, we face a crisis of epic proportions on Tuesday. And you really cannot say I did not say this wouldn’t happen now, can you? No! You can’t! Because long before we reached this stage I wrote a piece telling each of you that if Mitch McConnell had his way he would not hear from witnesses.

Again: Think for a moment! If someone is charged with a crime, AND that person is innocent, do they NOT want to have all of the witnesses they can muster to testify, allowing jurors to determine their innocence. You had better bet the bank on that.

During Congress’ impeachment inquiry, we heard two main allegations against the Democratic-led chamber. First, it was widely circulated by the propagandists that “Democrats were doing this investigation of oversight in secret.” Do you remember that?

Do you remember how those Republicans led by none other than Florida Republican Frat boy Matt Gaetz organized a storm of Republican Congressional Representatives into the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility better known as the SCIF? Sure you do! Because I wrote a piece on that topic as well, didn’t I? And what did I tell you then? Every single one of those Republicans had the exact same access as their Democratic counterparts. Of course, this did not stop Gaetz and Tabloid Trump from making public statements about how “unfair” the process was, now did it?

The second allegation was made by Tabloid Trump himself complaining how “unfair the process was.” and how “he was being denied due process.” I believe he used the word, “sham” to describe the impeachment inquiry, didn’t he?

And guess what? His supporters believe him. In fact, I encountered one of those supporters last night who echoes Trump’s sentiments. I was also asked why I refer to the executive of this nation as “Tabloid Trump?” Glad that person asked, and maybe you are wondering as well. I call him that name because when you go through a grocery store, how many times at the check out have you seen all of the tabloids lined up. And what do you usually do? You pick one of them up and look at those enticing headlines. Trump is writing the headlines and people are not only reading what he has to say but buying the damned tabloid for a keepsake.

Worse? Those from the Republican caucus of the Senate seem more than willing to not only stand in line reading those headlines but definitely internalizing them, allowing those specific headlines to create an alternate reality. Of course, it helps if the person who wants you to believe in those propagandized stories PAYS you to do so, now doesn’t it?

And of course, with the predictability of any mob boss – as reported by several media outlets – Trump did just that. It was reported that he was giving money to those Senators who might wish to see and hear from those witnesses in his party (think Murkowski, Collins, and even Romney).

As of yesterday, Collins is reported to have stated that she did not wish to hear the new damning Lev Parnas – a Giuliani associate – information at the Senate trial and simply chalks it up to “the House not doing its job.”

Meanwhile, Trump is going to assert executive privilege to prevent John Bolton from testifying. And here we all find ourselves, on the eve of next week’s Senate trial, with every appearance that Republicans will provide cover for their leading propagandist: Donald J. Trump.

I have seen folks argue in The Washington Post that Chief Justice Roberts has the ability to control this mess, and my question is simple: While Roberts has stated in the past that he did not want his Court politicized, he has gone with Trump on nearly everything that Trump seeks. Why would ANY of us trust the Chief Justice at this point?

This leads to my final point: When Speaker Pelosi stated she “was going to hold off on transmitting those articles of impeachment until ensured a fair trial would take place,” she has gone forth and transmitted them anyhow.

So, do I trust the Speaker’s strategy? Sure. But in our democracy, we can and should question just why she decided to release those articles to the Senate. She has no assurances of a fair trial, does she?

Worse? Trump, should the Senate proceed without hearing witness testimony, will state loudly and clearly that “he has been exonerated.” But what about that due process he was so concerned about? Well, that won’t matter to Trump, now will it?

And oh, by the way, the Senator – a juror no less who is threatening his Republican colleagues, is none other than Rand Paul.

Let the circus begin, but never forget: Donald J. Trump WILL ALWAYS BE an impeached president. He will NEVER remove THAT stain from his record, now will he?

Well done Mark. One thing I will add, however. To you and I and probably most thinking Americans, it is shameful to have an impeached president. To those who support Donald Trump they see it as a badge of honor. Trump is sticking his finger in the eyes of those who believe in the rule of law, decency, and living an ethical, if not a moral life. For some reason they have gotten it in there heads that doing right by those who travel this road of life is for suckers who deserve to be lied to, stolen from and cheated. I have heard it said that karma is a bitch. I sincerely hope this is true, otherwise this country is doomed to a fate similar to the banana republics normally found south of us.
