When Lincoln’s Ghost Is Weeping
English is one of the many subjects I have studied both in higher-ed and as an Autodidact. When I’m not writing “Fuck Trump” screeds, I actually write stuff. For money. I’ll call you when I make some.
Anyway, “The King’s Tongue” is important to me.
One of the first things an English Major learns is Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. The 264-word speech that changed the course of a war and reunited a fractured republic.
That is how Presidents speak.
People may or may not have supported Lincoln, politically, but nobody could sleight that speech. In fact, every word in that speech is carefully chosen in an attempt at unifying a divided nation, rather than dividing a unified one.
Today, our “president” tweeted, “Stand by your Commander in Chiefs.”
Trump’s so much more than simply “Individual One” in a vast power-grab conspiracy. He’s also a royal dumbass.
When my mother hears the word “President,” the first thought in her mind is FDR. Sadly, the first thought in mine is Richard Nixon. But, for a whole generation, the first thought in their minds will be Bonespurs J. Douchenozzle.
When Nixon is viewed as a greater patriot and statesman than our current inhabitant of the Former White House, then truly, Lincoln’s ghost is weeping.

Shouldn’t it be commanders in chief? Now Lincoln didn’t go to very expensive prep schools – his parents never could have afforded such things, but he was no known for grammatical clumsiness. Neither did Honest Abe hire a Rudy Guiliani to smear Stephen Douglass and invent narratives for the purpose. No threats were made against Douglass or his children or his dog and the man never had to change his name and sneak out of town by night.
When Lincoln gave a speech the words were chosen and weighed. They weren’t glossolalian babble. They didn’t stink of puerile vulgarity. They were economical, logical and they were true.
These two men should not be described in the same terms and the countries that elected them are not the same country. If our republic survives long enough to remember their names and in a form allowing history to be objective, One man will still be on the coinage and there will be monuments. The name of the other shall be a shameful hissing, a humiliating memory.
We have no commander and chief! We have a con man and liar and thief!! Trying to cut entitlements again! How many will vote against there own interest!! Time to wake up!!!
