Careless Governor Refuses To Enact Stay-At-Home As People Die
Every day brings more cases of COVID-19, and more deaths from COVID-19, and yet the Republican governor has refused to enact a stay-at-home order. This makes Nebraska one of only 8 states without such an order.
The spread of coronavirus in Grand Island, Nebraska is getting worse, much worse, and yet Governor Pete Ricketts remains intractable when Grand Island officials and doctors begged him for a lockdown to control the horrific outbreak, but he ignored them.
Cases in Hall County, which encompasses the blue-collar city of 50,000, were up to 403 on Friday after the number of new diagnoses this week doubled. The local hospital has been forced to send some patients to other facilities to cope with the surge.
Ricketts, meanwhile, said he won’t stand in the way of reopening a shopping mall in Gretna next week before the state’s social-distancing campaign is even over. Only a Republican would put so many at risk so as to abide by the instructions of Saint Donald the Trump, who is more than anxious to kickstart the economy despite the consequences.
The governor is a dedicated Trump ally who has appeared at several White House events, including most recently a black-tie event in February, didn’t criticize the president’s statements as other state and congressional leaders did Monday and Tuesday.
“We work collaboratively with our federal officials,” Ricketts said. “We do that with local governments as well.”
Of course, you do, as long as it’s OK with your pal Donald.

Nothing has changed. The world is still full of crazies.
