This Pandemic Will Likely Bankrupt Many Hospitals

It is crazy in the hospitals. With no strong guidance nationally each hospital is on its own. Administrative staff, some of who should know better, are sending mixed signals to state and local officials. They are out of touch with what is happening in their own hospitals and once the onslaught of very sick people starts, it is too late to act in an efficient way.

I work in a small hospital. Last week one of the admin medical bigshots came into my unit and during the conversation said that someone called offering cloth masks. “I told them we didn’t need them.” The other nurse and I both said in unison: why?!” I then explained that the cloth masks over our N95 masks would help us extend their usefulness because we would only have to change the cloth masks between patients. She said, “well, we aren’t there yet.” That was last week.

Here is the bottom line: most hospitals, big or small, operate on a fine margin. Hospitals cannot keep endless supplies of stuff “just in case” because most everything has a shelf life and the loss from overstocking would be more than most hospitals could carry and still stay in business. It is unrealistic to expect any hospital to be fully stocked and ready in 2 months. They would need more like 2 years. From coast to coast, EVERY hospital, big or small, will not have enough equipment or supplies. That is our reality.

If the CDC were intact and senior staff hadn’t been cut, we maybe would have done a better job of preparing. If we didn’t have a madman in the WH demanding homage before releasing vital supplies and equipment, we might not be so stressed. Doctors and nurses are getting sick and dying because they can’t adequately protect themselves. There are many reasons we are here. Right now, I don’t give a fuck who dropped the ball or balls. I just want to get through this and survive. I want my loved ones, family and friends, to get through this and survive.

Right now, I don’t give a shit about politics or religion or social status. I just want to get to the end alive and help as many people get there with me as I can. Stay home, practice good hygiene, share your fucking hoarded paper products. Stop venting your spleen on beleaguered workers who are just trying to keep everyone safe, including you, you self-important POS.

We would ALL rather be hunkered down at home, letting this plague pass over us like the Israelites of antiquity. But we can’t because we are essential. Do you think you have stress? Missing date night, having the kids home, being inconvenienced? Try walking into a giant petri dish of sick people wondering if this is your day to be infected.

This pandemic will likely bankrupt some hospitals and severely restrict the cash flow of others. Remember, every person has to be seen whether they have insurance or not.

If we don’t demand, en masse, national healthcare after this is over then we are a nation of idiots.

Great Jess, you would fit right in at my place. I have always figured that this is my place so I can be as undress as much as I please. I am sure it is not nearly as pretty a sight, but I am what I am and if someone does not like turn your damn head. There is no one but myself here and Rascal before he passed and he never minded. If, perchance, I have company, I do put on some clothes out of courtesy.

Jess, you are cracking me up. But I have to wonder about all this nakedness. You have the heart of a hippie for sure, lol!

Don’t wonder Rockync, let’s blame the ‘rents for this because they instilled this whole free spirit thing in me and a positive body image deal. I am way cool with being naked as long as I still have abs and a gravity defying ass. I will probably still walk around naked when I don’t though, it’s my preferred way of being. Just so happens I have no shame. I try but I can never be embarrassed about things. Life is way too damn short to worry about stupid crap. Although my boyfriend’s CO has told him to be more careful in the future about where he sets up for online meetings because he’s a prude. Seriously dude is like a holy rolling happy clapper.

Holte, you are exactly right. I have been trying to tell people that nonprofit healthcare works, once upon a time it was all we had. National healthcare would get us there again.

I am always ok, as long as I have my weed Holte and my good attitude. The second I lose either one, or both of those things I am totally fucked 😉

Hospitals wouldn’t go bankrupt if they weren’t for profit.

Health Insurance and doctor-owned hospitals for profit? In days of yore, health insurance was a non-profit Friendly Society and hospitals served communities. Forget Medicare for all, get rid of greed in the “health business” first.

I’m fortunate to have 4 dogs for company, so I’m never alone nor lonely. They keep me busy as well, especially my two pups, who are always seeking attention. In the mornings, I take them to the local park, which is always deserted, and let them run, and they love it. After we’re home, publishing MMA stuff, with articles like this one, maybe doing some class stuff, as the university transitioned to online, and of course good ole FB! Later in the day, I watch TV, other than the news which is always on, and/or read. Naturally, the day is punctuated by phone calls, texting, and etc. All in all no complaints.

I’m doing class stuff too but that is ending since the kids are going to be graduating early. I’ve actually had a couple of funny af things happen involving my bf and when the time is right I shall talk about it.

OK. I hope they are good things. I wish our classes were graduating early. That’s a good idea.

Ok here is one that happened just last week with him. So he is doing some of his Air Force stuff from home while he was off his regular firefighting gig and they have this online meeting he forgets to tell me about right. For some reason he sets his laptop up in my bedroom and right after I take my shower I walk out of said shower, butt assed naked… the guys from his team get an eyeful of butt assed nekkid Jess. I am supposed to be all embarrassed his commanding officer and everyone else saw me naked and come over all flushed or something. His guys are all, you know you are naked right. Me, you know you’re in my bedroom being peeping Toms right, which one of us should be embarrassed here. Apparently right after he got personal messages of high fives from all of them for having such a boss girlfriend, all of them… women included.

I have many more like that one, only the room and people change in the versions I tell. Like my 30th birthday party where I was stripping off and I did not realize my friends were in my living room till I was in my bra and panties. Or the time I was naked waiting for Kent and he had brought home a coworker unexpectedly without telling me. I got flowers and a thank you card from the guy for the floor show and we still laugh about it. Many of those stories like I said. I wish I could muster up shame about it but I cannot.

I am about sick of some friends of mine whining about how they cannot go drinking and partying right now while health care and essential workers are up to their eyeballs trying to stay alive. I have one that I did not realize till now what a bitch she was till we all started drinking together on skype how bitchy she was about her hair and nails. Bitch wear a baseball cap no one gives a fuck you cannot get your damn hair and nails done, we cannot fucking see you. Oh and as far as date night goes, um we have been having date night at our houses for weeks. We get dressed in big girl and boy clothes and go out to the kitchen, dining room and call it Chez Jess or Chez Ty, depending on what house we are at we get picked up at a door. Also too the rest of the rooms got names and we do date nights in those too for a movie, for some swimming in the cement pond. Hell, I even made my hallway into an art museum for him because he is an art lover. We did a concert for some of our friends with another friend of ours that plays the violin. Things like that to keep sane while cooped up,

Yes I pity the courageous health workers and all needed services. Thank goodness for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do have an evil chuckle thinking how all the hedge fund managers are sleeping at night.

This article really points out the many problems faced by health care workers. It’s frightening the lack of response by the administration. Be safe and thanks for taking the time to reach out.
