Don’t Twist the Facts—God Doesn’t Belong To You

Read Time:5 Minute, 4 Second

by Dr. Mark Bear

So, as is often the case, I have received yet another personal message critiquing my public stance regarding opening the economies of states in exchange for lives. Without giving the individual’s identity, this is what he writes:

“You speak of things you know very little about. As a Christian, you would think you had more faith in the God you publicly state you have belief in. If I do not wish to wear a mask, it is MY right. (Emphasis mine). If you do not wish to wear one, that is your constitutional right. I trust “MY GOD,” who “supplies all of my needs according to His riches and glory.” You? Well, it is clear where your trust is. It is in a politician who posed as a leader named Barack Obama. Me? Just look at what “MY PRESIDENT” has accomplished. And when he is done, he will show the nation just what a corrupt man Obama is. Its his fault [sic] that we find ourselves where we are with this hoax of an operation by government. Thanks to my President he is exposing it for what it is. Nothing but a big hoax perpetrated by Fauci, Obama, and Democrats.”

Can I just say for the record? I do not even know where to even begin with this type of person, but two specific areas do speak out to me. First, this individual actually believes GOD – as the GOD in the Scriptures – is HIS! God, however, is NOT the property of some individual. It is that simple and it is this mindset that proves how entitled, privileged, arrogant, and condescending these people are, and why I now know with 100 percent certainty that the message I preached to them, as a full-time minister was spot on. No wonder they could not stand me as a preacher. They were having the truth exposed to them, and let’s face it: these people merely want the pastors of their respective churches to tell them just “how good they are,” “how saved they are,” how “horrible their neighbor is especially should say neighbor believe anything remotely different from themselves.”

These people, in other words, are going to church to show other people just how ‘spiritual’ they are. These are the very ones that go out of their way to TELL you, me, and every other person willing to listen how mighty “their God is,” but then in the next sentence complain over how “people in this country have removed Him from the public schools and square.”

These people are the very ones yelling how you, me, and others need to invite Jesus into our personal hearts, but in the next sentence argue how that “Jesus is incapable of directing the affairs of the individual He has saved.”

In other words, these people are double-minded. They speak out of both sides of their respective mouths.

Second, how the individual wandered from “HIS GOD,” to constitutional rights is beyond pale. Was God present when the Founders drafted the document? No! How about the Declaration of Independence? Nope! But to listen to these individuals, God and the drafting of these two documents are synonymous and damned the facts that these Founders are on record as being “deists” not “theists.”

The very fact that the individual does not feel compelled to wear a mask in public demonstrates just how empty, void, and vacuous his supposed relationship with Christ is. When Paul discusses the controversial subject of eating meat in the Bible he clearly states: “If I offend my brother by eating meat, I shall refrain.” But you see, my readers? These people cherry-picking only those scriptures which support their ideology, their politics, their worldview. And I can tell you: The God of the Bible – at least the One I know does not work this way.” I know for a fact: Should God need to get in touch with you, He will find a way to do so. In other words, HE does NOT need ME to do so. The keyword being NEED. How small these people’s god is.

How shameful these people are that they openly USE God as a constitutional argument, just as the Republican party USES THEM as people. And really? I supposedly – according to this individual – have my faith in a politician, and he doesn’t when he talks about Trump as though he and Trump were in love with one another? Seriously! The irony cannot be lost here.

Let me put this in as clear a manner as I can: You wear a damned mask because it saves NOT YOUR LIFE – you selfish pricks – but saves others. And if you cannot understand that, well don’t lecture me about my understanding of what constitutes a relationship with God.

You wear a damned mask so people like myself – with compromised immune systems – do not catch the virus you believe your Dear Leader has unveiled as a hoax. You do it because you care about your fellow man. You do it for the person struggling with cancer. You do it for the elderly ensuring you do not pass the virus on. How difficult can this be for you?

You see, the difference between these people and me? I walk my talk! These people are trying to fake it until they make it, but there is a problem with this approach: people see us for our fruit, that is, who we REALLY are. And I can assure each of those with the above mindset: you surely are not winning over people to the faith, but more winning people to a political cause. And political causes do not do one thing for one’s spiritual frame. Period!

Finally, DO NOT post on my Wall how ALL religion is a mental illness. Because it isn’t! It just so happens that it affects some people in a highly negative manner. Me? I think I have proven otherwise.

To further offer, I wear a mask as my wife lives with COPD… could I face the man in the mirror were I to bring home such a dark gift as Covid-19?

It’s a matter of giving a damn about someone other than myself, and nothing less..

Thank you, my friend, for your words.

As you know, and as do your followers know, I choose to be your unofficial Jewish cheering section…

We Jews (or at least most of us) don’t believe one must be Jewish to end up in a positive final exit interview with the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (while it couldn’t hurt…

Your correspondent is obviously of the mind that one must be, not only a Christian, but of that specific and narrow interpretation of which you have been plagued for so very long…

Just thanks for your words, my friend, and much love.

I don’t think that’s “fake”. It’s just how Christians act. When a Muslim suicides bombs a group of people, does that make them “fake “ Muslims? We need to stop equating Christian with good.

I am so tired of “fake” Christians who preach but never practice what they preach! I am moved by the love shown in article

Mark, I generally appreciate your writing and your ideas. Even this one speaks more truth than you may have intended. I tend to agree with your argument, however here, I think you let the idiots get under your skin. There is little doubt that those who are following Trump are idiots and either they are stupid or ignorant. You just have to let them be because you can’t fix stupid, and while, at least in theory, ignorance can be fixed but not the kind that follows Trump. The Trumpers will not listen so they might learn which causes me to put them all in the stupid category.
I firmly believe that the people who believe that has so little greatness and power that He allows such plague to exist, and I firmly believe that Trump supporters have a right to vote for him, if they choose. But, I have no sympathy for those who are too stupid to realize that following Trump down his rabbit hole is undermining the foundational principles on which America is based.
So, don’t let them bait you into a tirade against people with the smarts of a damned rock.
