Twitter Slaps Trump’s Little Hands But Was It Enough?

Read Time:2 Minute, 22 Second

by Michael John Scott

Donald Trump just can’t keep his finger off the Twitter Trigger.  He uses the media giant to insult people, make spurious and inane observations about global policy, and to actually affect national policy by pulling that Twitter Trigger.

Much of what he writes would lead to the average American being banned, but not Donald Trump.  He is Twitter gold.  For the first time, however, the Twitterators actually did something about the Idiot-in-Chief’s more bizarre claims.  Did they ban him?  No.  Did they chastise him?  Check out the Newser summary:

For the first time, Twitter has flagged some of President Trump’s tweets with a fact-check warning. On Tuesday, Twitter added a warning phrase to two Trump tweets that called mail-in ballots “fraudulent” and predicted that “mailboxes will be robbed,” among other things. Under the tweets, there is now a link reading “Get the facts about mail-in ballots” that guides users to a Twitter “moments” page with fact checks and news stories about Trump’s unsubstantiated claims. The move comes after years in which Twitter has declined to apply its community guidelines and other rules of the road to the 45th US president.

It’s too soon to tell whether this action represents a turning point for Twitter in its treatment of Trump, the AP notes. But the warning labels suggest that the president has finally crossed a line that the company was not willing to move for him. Trump reacted to the move with anger, accusing Twitter of “interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election.” “Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!” the president said in a tweet that has so far not been flagged by Twitter.

I don’t remember hearing of the Twitterator ever taking such an action.  A flagging? A fact-check warning?  Tweets disclaiming Trump’s tweets?  What the fuck?  As I said earlier almost anything Trump tweets would get us banned for life, but not The Twit.  He didn’t even get a slap on his little wrist.

Twitter’s recent decision, a way perhaps to sanction the president, is designed to do one thing, and that’s to satisfy the Twitterati, while not making their #1 Tweeter unhappy.  Now, Trump is threatening to shut down social media for interfering in the election?

Once again I have to ask ‘what the fuck?’  If you can find anything that authorizes the president of the United States to close down private companies please let me know in the comments.  Oh, it’s not a violation of free speech, by the way, it’s just more Trump bullshit.  Will Twitter post a response to that empty threat?  Not yet they haven’t.

Oh, and yes, he has no authority to shut down private companies, especially for fact checking his lies. He has no authority to tell you to sell or buy their stocks either, but if you’re looking for proof that he thinks he is the government: the courts, the congress and the justice department – that he thinks he’s the king. . .

It’s the fact that he thinks he can ban Twitter that shakes me up – that he thinks he has the power to interfere with the election process or blackmail States that keeps me up at night. It’s the fact that he has a legion of brownshirts to harass, threaten libel and punish anyone who even questions his pronouncements. Thinking about his endless “investigations” of rivals, how can I help thinking of George III and the reason for the American war of independence.

Here’s our dime store despot claiming his “free speech” is being violated but who doesn’t know the difference between an internet company and the US congress. It’s the Congress forbidden to infringe it, no one else is obliged to let you shit in their punch bowl – and yet God help the child who says anything negative about him. The Brownshirts will soon be calling with death threats.

But whether or not we call it crazy, it comes to the same thing. Crazy is a hazy thing anyway – or it is in my opinion. The psychologists have their own axe to grind and they have their definitions designed to protect their turf. Crazy? Like obscenity, I know it when I see it.

If he were to ban Twitter, how would he get his rants out? This is, another step toward trying to totally become a dictator, something he dearly wants to do. He admires Putin and Lil’ Kim and their ability to control anything in their country. But how far will they (the Republicans) let him go before they realize they have fucked themselves up. At what point will Trump’s minions realize how close each one of them is standing to the fire. Every person in Trump’s orbit is one miscue, or not, from being chopped and burned in a Tweet. Without any doubt this will be a shade over 5 months of the nastiest political times in this country’s history. I suggest to you that he will push his people to commit acts that may be so blatant that even “good” Republicans can no longer hold their noses.

This man is sick in the head, but he’s not insane, a descriptor often applied to mass murderers and others who commit especially egregious crimes. Trump is sick in the head by choice. He does what he does because he’s always done it, and it hasn’t seemed to hurt him. His first response is to take to Twitter and fire shots at all who might have deigned to offend him. He is a monster, as is those who serve him, and that includes Twitter’s bosses.
