Unrest Continues As Cops Shot, Others Killed During Protests

As protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of police continued Monday night, Floyd’s brother pleaded for calm. Dropping to his knees at the Minneapolis storefront where Floyd fought for his final breaths as a police officer was kneeling on his neck, Terrence Floyd said, per the AP:

“I understand y’all are upset. I doubt y’all are half as upset as I am. So if I’m not over here blowing up stuff, if I’m not over here messing up my community, then what are y’all doing? What are y’all doing? Y’all doing nothing. Because that’s not going to bring my brother back at all.”

Floyd said that he agrees the other three cops involved in Floyd’s arrest should be criminally charged, but that it’s time for protesters to stop “destroy[ing] stuff” as they seek to make their voices heard. Even so, demonstrations in many places across the US were still turning violent Monday night.

Unfortunately, Trump didn’t hear Terence Floyd as he continues to incite violence to serve his political purpose.

Here’s the summary from Newser:

  • Buffalo, New York: An SUV plowed through a group of law enforcement officers at a protest, injuring two, the AP reports. The vehicle was carrying two people who had been shot, apparently at the protest. They were receiving treatment, as were the injured police officers; a third person in the SUV was in police custody.
  • Cicero, Ill.: Two people were fatally shot at a protest in the suburb of Chicago, the AP reports.
  • St. Louis, Mo.: Four police officers were shot at a protest, CNN reports. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
  • Las Vegas: A police officer and a civilian were shot in separate incidents following a protest on the Las Vegas Strip, the Reno Gazette-Journal reports.
  • Philadelphia: Counter-protesters were carrying bats, golf clubs, and billy clubs and threatening protesters; the Washington Post reports that a radio producer recording them ended up getting beaten up.
  • Birmingham, Ala.: Workers started removing a Confederate monument Monday night after protesters tried to knock the 50-foot obelisk down the night before, the AP reports.
  • New York City: A CNN reporter described widespread looting and destruction as “anarchy on the streets” in NYC, which imposed a curfew from 11 pm to 5 am. Tuesday night’s curfew will start earlier, at 8 pm.
  • Richmond, Va.: Protesters who were attempting to topple statues were hit with tear gas after refusing to stop.
  • Around the world: Thousands more were protesting in cities including Rio de Janeiro, Amsterdam, Paris, London, and more.
  • Inciting violence: Twitter says it has found at least one example of a white supremacist account posing as Antifa and calling for violence in an effort to inflame tensions. The account has been removed.
  • Pushing back against the president: Meanwhile, the AP reports some Democratic governors were rejecting President Trump’s Monday threat to send in the US military if governors don’t deploy the National Guard to maintain order on the streets. Some are refusing to deploy the National Guard; others say Trump has no authority to deploy the military to states.

What is happening? The president is acting like he has lost it. His actions and those of Barr is not normal To send out tear gas into a peaceful demo to clear the place for the president to pose in front of a church holding a bible what was the purpose Is he trying to show himself for the hipocrite he is. Then he is succeeding. Is he calling his far right group to further unrest I hope not this is the most confusing. He has acted since he was elected

I was on the FB page of a ‘friend’ of mine, someone I’ve been FB’ing with for years when he said the police deserved to be shot. I blocked his ass.
